My 2nd annual “Spooky Supper” with last night was a success!! Tina & I had a ton of fun planning, cooking & serving y’all this creepy, spooky menu! (Also, delicious 💅🏻)

1st pic is my personal fave, my heart-shaped vegetarian meatloaf (1/2 , 1/2 king oysters, *footnote .thurston.jpeg) brushed with sweet, tangy glaze & served on a generous scoop of creamy potatoes…

CREEPY CRAWLERS: cheeseball spiders flavored with caramelized shallots, fennel pollen & lavender from my garden, then rolled in a mix of black sesame seeds & poppyseeds, with a red bell pepper cross marking. Concord grape jam legs were thickly drawn on each plate, and we passed a platter of mixed crackers around the table, in addition to the few on each plate.
>>>
JACK-O-LANTERNS: Tina’s creation! Freshly-made puff pastry stuffed with butternut squash and jammy caramelized onions that had a lovely background heat. Served on a salad of arugula tossed in olive oil & lemon juice to cut the pie’s sweet richness, with a drizzle of balsamic glaze.

✨I’m very excited for this one!!!✨
No Illusions Tours, Sobremesa Buffalo & Forest Lawn present: All Souls Victorian Picnic & Tour. Join us Saturday, September 9th at 11am for a classic Victorian Era pastime. You'll stroll through the beautiful park-like setting that is Forest Lawn Cemetery while learning about Buffalo's influential women at their gravesites. You'll hear our city's history through the lives of some of its favorite daughters through a presentation curated by No Illusions Tours. Featured are women involved in the art and innovation of the Pan Am Expo, and a woman who kept Buffalonians safe during the War of 1812, as well as authors, a pioneer of the NAACP, the first professional female architect in the U.S. and the creator of the nation's first childcare center. The tour will end with a traditional 19th century picnic in the heart of Forest Lawn. Sobremesa will supply a typical picnic meal of the time to include: bread rolls with lettuces, butter and grated ham (or cucumber sandwiches by request), sweet peach pickles, oranges, Black Cake (Emily Dickinson’s recipe), meringue kisses, and lemonade. Proceeds will be split between all three organizations. Tickets are very limited for this special one-time event!

Celebrate this St Patrick’s day immersing yourself in Irish-American culture and history! Co-presented by Sobremesa and , opens with a fascinating, interactive talk on Irish Buffalo history! Then Sobremesa will serve a 5-course menu of small plates inspired by The Motherland.
🇮🇪
The dishes served will focus on Ireland’s traditional cuisine & culinary heritage- as well as play with traditional Irish ingredients and flavors in more unusual ways. (Note from Chef Claire: This means no corned beef, which is a dish immigrants invented *in America* as a cheap, accessible substitution for their much-loved traditional salt pork.) Menu details TBA.
🇮🇪
We’ll begin the evening with a presentation on the history of Buffalo's Irish immigrants & their families. We’ll tell the story of the Old First Ward and the expansion of the Irish into other neighborhoods, including South Buffalo. This includes tales of work and life on the waterfront, strikes that affected the entire nation’s supply of grains, the early days of the Catholic Church in WNY, and the Fenian Brotherhood in Buffalo. Also will comment on the Buffalo Irish in the Civil War & the Pan Am Expo, and famous Buffalonians of Irish descent.
🇮🇪
There are only 20 seats and tickets are live now. Link in bio. 🍀
