He's an essential part of the crew- our no-bad-days, happiest, dopiest, makes life better guy. He's king of the wood chip pile, helps with weeding, keeps the groundhogs away, greets our CSA members and farm stand shoppers, keeps crew morale high, often sleeps on the job, and loves nothing more than BALL. Happy 3rd birthday, Panchieee ❤️❤️

Eating with the seasons brings so many new & exciting flavors to each week. What spring veggie are you most looking forward to?

Last night, we had our final winter CSA pick-up! The first attempt at winter CSA was a great learning experience for us - & overall a success - and I know we can only get better from here on out. ❄️✨

Many thanks to Massachusetts Avenue Project for not only hosting our pick-up + providing our members with a warm, inviting spot- but also all the extra goodies they could buy & enjoy there. Also to all the local farms we partnered with who provided us with items to supplement our shares with Plato Dale Farm McCollum Orchards Promised Land CSA at Oles Family Farm The Root Down Farm

And, of course, a huge THANK YOU to our members, who acted as our guinea pigs and trusted us in this new endeavor! It was great to see many of you last night and get your feedback. You are at the heart of our farm, and we are so grateful for all of you! ❤️

Now...onto seeding in the warm, sunny greenhouse today to get rolling on Summer CSA 2022! We always give our current members first dibs at sign-up, but will be opening up membership to the general public next week. Keep your eyes peeled. Spring is coming fast 👀 🌱☀️

We're back! + everything, inside & out, is covered in blankets of white.

Honestly (I know...unpopular opinion) seeing lots of snow and cold temps feels so good. A good, cold, snowy winter holds so many benefits for our upcoming season. It feels like winter, as it should be.

Fear not though because everyday is getting brighter & we've passed the official halfway point. Soon we'll be seeing a world of color again!

We can't wait to be growing lots and seeing you all on the farm. You'll be hearing from us more as we're gearing up for the season ahead. There are so many exciting things on the horizon but today we're soaking up these fleeting moments of quiet & ❄️✨

Saludos desde México! 🇲🇽 We make a point of getting away each winter to rest and recharge, and we're feeling extra fortunate this year that Kelly is holding down the fort and our winter CSA. We'll be disconnecting for a bit, but we'll be in touch when we get back because CSA 2022 is right around the corner. See you soon, Buffalo! GO BILLS! ❤️💙

this here is a photo of our 4th winter CSA share, which is also our last in 2021. naturally, this has us reflecting & feeling so grateful for this bounty. there were so many firsts for us in our 6th year, including our winter CSA and this honey! we're feeling so proud of our little farm and our mighty staff. i hope when you reflect on your year that you feel proud of yourself, too.

I also remember that this year brought us 90 degree days in May, the cold and flooding rains of July, and this 65 degree day in December. I worry for our earth and our collective futures.

reflecting further on two years of non-stop public facing work during a pandemic, i think about how we've really leaned hard on our front line workers- esp farmers, restaurant/grocery, teachers, and medical staff. and it makes sense- what could be more important than food, education and healthcare? in the early days, "hero" was being thrown around a lot and yet, we still don't take care of these folks that have always helped us through the darkest of times. i know there are a lot important ppl out there who keep our world a turnin' but i've been in 3 out of the 4 fields listed & i can say without a doubt that they are some of the most underfunded, underappreciated, and overworked professions out there.

I don't have many answers but i do know that what gives me hope, and what helps both of these situations, is keeping solutions local. Support local, small-scale farms. we're lucky in WNY to have so many great farms & farmers. & there have been so many of you who have supported us- too many to name here- but that proud feeling i was talking about before is due in large part to all of you. you're so important to us.

if you're still here reading this, thanks for indulging the ramblings of a farmer reflecting on all the beauty and bu****it that was 2021. that's the truth every year, isn't it? it feels esp true now. i guess all i really was trying to say tho..in brief 😂 with much love and appreciation.. THANK YOU. & I hope you have a very happy holiday season surrounded by those who make you feel as warm and loved as we do now. Xo

First time we've ever grown sweet potatoes! We were late planting 'em and we're late digging 'em.. but we're doing are best, ok? 🙃 They'll cure for a couple weeks so their starches start to break down & convert to sugars, giving them that sweet flavor we know and love. 10/10 would grow again! Plus, they're so fun to dig outta the ground 🍠🐙

Hi it's us, your farmers 👋 I know we've been bad at posting this season, but you want to know what we have been great at? Growing tens of thousands of lbs of organic produce for our neighbors, CSA members, farm stand goers and area restaurants and businesses. We've been great at interfacing IRL with our community and each other as we navigate another season of growing in a pandemic. Each year, despite our challenges, we're growing more & working smarter, not harder. That's due in large part to the crew you see here! We're happy & grateful for that. We're feeling extra sentimental today, as it's our last CSA pick-up/farm stand of the season. But just because it's the last farm stand does not mean our season ends! We have lots still growing so will be posting $20 bags in the weeks to come- keep your eyes peeled! We are also, for the 1st time ever, hosting a winter CSA and we have a limited amount of spots available. If you're interested- feel free to shoot us a message and we'll get you the info. We'll be seeing you soon.. (maybe tonight?!) and hopefully IRL but also on here too..when we remember. THANK YOU to everyone who has visited, toured, shopped, become a CSA member, or waved as you pass by. We appreciate you ❤️

Perhaps a #csaweek farmer highlight over coffee?! This morning we are featuring our dear friend and fellow urban farm, Groundwork Market Garden! 👨‍🌾 Groundwork Market Garden (GWMG) is a USDA Certified Organic urban farm on Buffalo's east side. Groundwork offers a 20-week summer share and pickups are on Tuesdays, right on the farm. This past winter, Groundwork offered their first winter share. Pick ups for that box were right at MAP's Farmhouse. Fingers crossed they do that again next fall because we had a lot of fun meeting all of their members!! 🥬 They grow over 50 varieties of tasty veggies for their CSA, farm stand, farmers markets, and restaurants. You might even see an item or two on MAP's market tables in the summertime. 👩‍🏫 You can learn more about Groundwork's farm philosophy on their website. 🔗 Sign up details can be found at https://www.groundworkmg.com/join.html or by tapping the link in our story. 📸 Pictured is a bright CSA collage that farm owner, Mayda made for their own Instagram page. ☑️ Check back later today for more #csaweek farmer highlights! #csaday #csaweek #csa #wnycsa #nygrown #organicfarming #eatlocal #slowfoodbuffalo #eatgreen #eatfresh #sipandcsaday #organic #usdaorganic #urbanfarm

Today was a great day! BCF and Sir Michael Prince put together a turkey drive and coat giveaway. With the communities donations we were able to provide our neighbors with socks, gloves, hats, shoes, coats, and so much more. As the day went on the fridge got stocked a few streets down. Groundwork Market Garden provided the fridge with so many beautiful greens. Thanks to everyone who came out to help, shop, and just say hi 👋 We hope everyone stays safe and warm as the weather starts to change. Peace and love, BCF ❤️🥦
Buffalo is home to 15+ urban farms and businesses and more than 100 community gardens. Collectively, they have transformed more than 25 acres of vacant lots into beautiful, bountiful spaces that feed their neighbors. They provide numerous social, economic, and ecosystem services for our community including job creation, community building, enhancing food security, supporting pollinator populations, educating neighbors about food production, providing green space, and so. much. more! With funding provided by Farm Credit East, ACA, we were able to highlight our urban farms' efforts during an urban agriculture tour back in September. We were joined by Buffalo Common Council members, local community leaders, Buffalo Freedom Gardens, Cornell Cooperative Extension of Erie County, the CCE Cornell Vegetable Program, Harvest New York, the New York Farm Bureau , NRCS, Erie County Department of Environment and Planning, Massachusetts Avenue Project, and 5 Loaves Farm. We were so lucky to have @ProducedbyRifat join us on the tour so that we could share highlights with all of you!
