Gene McCarthy's is an old time tavern built around the turn of century, located in the Old First Ward of Buffalo, NY. We have a rich history of Irish, Polish and Italian immigrants who worked as grain scoopers, railroad and steel workers. As far back as our oldest patron can remember (Joe is 93), the Irish bar of Gene McCarthy's, established in 1963, was previously run by a Polish woman named Juli

a. At Gene McCarthy's, we brew our own beer under our brewery , Old First Ward Brewing Company. The small 3.5 barrel system serves our bar directly from the huge tanks in the cooler. Direct and fresh! nine unique and handcrafted beers on tap daily as well as a full menu serving lunch and dinner.
