Lazy Goat Acres

Lazy Goat Acres Lazy Goat Acres was the home of Samantha the most laid back and lazy goat we ever owned. We raise Nigerian Dwarf Goats.

She also gave us Triplets every year, she was a great mother and an excellent milker.

Three days after shearing the fun begins, of course she had it out in the field, neither of them will probably be here much longer as we are selling off our flock of Shetland Sheep this year.

Yesterday I brought the "kids" toy car out to the barn. Grandma Debbie put it together for them. We have had it for years, but it was in the back yard where there are currently no little ones. The biggest problem is the big goats like to kick the little ones out and use it for themselves.

May 10th. Samantha as always had Triplets. Two girls and one boy. One girl and the boy have blue eyes. I gave everyone including Samantha the year off last year because she had given me five sets of Triplets and realized she needed a year off. The last time I milked her she was in milk for 21 months and I had a difficult time drying her off.

She is a mixed breed goat that I paid twenty dollars for in 2016. I think I have gotten my money out of her.

She is actually more of a pet than a farm animal. She loves to be petted and loves her treats. Most of the time she comes by calling her name.

First babies born here this year, both girls. Momma was a First timer. They were still wet at 06:30 this morning but already nursing.

With nine more ewes and nine goats still to lamb / kid it will be a long spring.

In late November of this year somebody approached me about adopting this girl. At first I was reluctant because we already had five dogs. Although two of them (Great Pyrenees) live with the sheep and goats.

We call her Barbie or Barbie Doll. She is house broken, loves loves to ride in any kind of vehicle, loves to be loved on, loves to sleep on the bed as well as my wife's recliner. She also loves to sit down in front of you and put her paw up to shake hands with you, and walks very well on a leash.

Poodles were originally hunting dogs and she shows it. Especially early in the morning she can not get get her nose off of the ground. When the coyotes howl at night she gets ferocious towards them.

She gets along GREAT with the sheep, Goats, rabbits, cats and other dogs. She was full of cockle burs down to the skin so we had to get her groomed. The lady who groomed her said she had been groomed before due to the way she behaved. She never leaves my side when home even when I am sleeping.

Welcome home Barbie Doll.

Today we brought in a rescue goat, his name is Vincent and is approximately three years old. He is supposed to be full blooded Pygmy but I have some doubt about that.

He was abused as a young goat by children. He lived his life in a pen that was literally dirt and had only a plastic dog house all year round.

He is over weight, when we went to pick him up I found out why.......they were feeding him cheese puffs on a regular basis. He has not been around other goats since he was a baby. So far he is fitting in well. He is extremely friendly but also likes to jump up on me. He will overcome that.

So far Bear says he is welcome and can stay.
