Thank God we put a woodstove in last year!

Please pray for the farmers across the country who have worse temps than this or temps like this that last all winter. Farming ain't for sissies!

Heading into winter on the farm and it's dark at morning and evening feedings. We don't get to see the chickens much this time of year because they're always in bed. The horses are bundled up with blankets and extra hay. The water hose constantly freezes in the cold temps. The saving grace is the beautiful skies this time of year.

The boys had a dentist visit today to take care of their teeth. Lincoln will now switch to a soft diet. His teeth are worn down so much that he is high risk for choking. Cooper has 2 teeth that are infected that we need to keep an eye on. Dinky has super teeth so far.

Horse teeth need regular care to trim off uneven wear caused by the chewing and grinding their food. Left unchecked, the teeth can develop hooks and sharp points that can slice the inside of their cheeks. Uneven teeth make it difficult to grind their food to the best consistency for optimal health. Equine dentists grind off the high sharp points and hooks to even out their teeth so they can get the most out of what they eat and keep a healthy weight.

As they age, a horse's teeth will eventually wear all the way down to the gums, making it difficult to chew food. That's what's going on with Lincoln. We will soak his food to minimize the need to chew it thoroughly and to keep it from climbing in his throat. Hopefully he'll gain more weight before winter.
