From my garden this week, I wanted to share how I am growing cucumbers this year. A lot of varieties struggle with foliar disease and one great way to minimize disease is to grow cucumbers vertically. I like to grow mine on sturdy tomato cages. Yep, I did say tomato cages. đ You can grow a high number of plants in small spaces this way. Did you know that commercial cucumber spacing is only 6" between plants? I love this Marketmore 76 variety, which is likely the most widely available open-polinated variety. Organic seeds are easy to find too. I am up to about 26 cukes so far and the plants are going strong. Time for some refrigerator pickles! đ±

Cherry Valley Organics began in 2001 as a USDA certified organic farm, producing a high diversity of agricultural products, including vegetables, specialty greens, mushrooms, herbs, cut flowers, and potted plants. Since those early years, we have grown into an organic lifestyle company, producing a wide diversity of products that support a clean, organic lifestyle, including our herbal teas and herbal bath & body products, all of which are grown or hand-made at the farm.
When you choose organic food and other products, youâre helping more than yourself. Youâre supporting farmers and producers who work hard to meet the organic standards because they believe in good health, quality, and sustainability. Your support pays it forward.

Cherry Valley Organics is a collaboration. Unlike traditional family farms, we come from diverse geographical, family, and professional backgrounds. We are growers, scientists, food & health enthusiasts, teachers, caretakers, and nutritionists. We are all farmers. And, all of us here at Cherry Valley Organics are committed to growing and producing high quality certified organic products for our community. We would never compromise on organics. Ever.
Cherry Valley Organics, founded in 2001 by Jodi Danyo, has since grown into one of the leading producers of organic products in southwestern Pennsylvania. Begun as a one-third-acre âurban farmâ in the Pittsburgh suburb of Crafton, Cherry Valley Organics now encompasses approximately 36 acres in nearby Cherry Valley, Washington County, PA. Despite this expansion, the footprint of the operation is still quite small with farming operations encompassing less than 6 acres.
The farm was built, quite literally, from the ground up!
