It's Never Too Late to Start

Some adults assume they've missed their opportunity to benefit from strength training.

Maybe they didn't exercise much in their twenties or thirties. Maybe they've been inactive for a few years. Maybe they feel like they should have started sooner.

While starting earlier is always beneficial, the next best time to start is now.

The human body is remarkably adaptable. Adults in their forties, fifties, sixties, and beyond can still become stronger, improve their fitness, and support their long-term health through regular strength training.

Progress doesn't require a perfect past.

It requires consistent action in the present.

This is what showing up looks like.

Sandy and I met a few years ago. She started with personal training because she was nervous (like everyone) and she wasn't sure if she was ready to work out in a group.

Fast forward to today and here she is learning a new movement. This one is challenging because it requires balance, a squat and a push. I knew she's love it...even when I kept adding weight each set.

If she looks familiar, you may have been by her farm Chip-in Farm in Bedford to get some eggs or farm store stuff. If not, get on over there and tell her how easy she makes this look.

So… What Does Muscle Have to Do With Weight Loss?

Everything.

Here's the thing most fitness advice gets wrong: the scale doesn't tell the full story. Cardio burns calories during a workout — and that's it. The moment you step off the treadmill, the burn stops.

Muscle works differently.

Muscle is metabolically active tissue. That means the more muscle you have, the more calories your body burns at rest — just living your life, sitting at your desk, watching TV, sleeping. Even a few pounds of added muscle can meaningfully increase your resting metabolic rate.

Think of muscle as a fat-burning engine that runs 24/7.

When you build strength, you're not just getting toned — you're rewiring your metabolism to work harder for you around the clock. That's why women who lift weights often start losing weight (and keeping it off) even when they haven't changed much about their diet.

We loved talking about why fitness and movement matters so much especially when you're over 35—for strength, mobility, longevity, and feeling like yourself.

One of my favorite kiddos reached 50+ workouts this week!

Miss D was nervous when she started and wasn’t sure about fitness beyond school gym class. It took her some time to feel comfortable lifting weights, but she tried, stuck with it, and learned all kinds of cool fitness skills. And now --- she’s a leader in class.

Here she is with her super cool kettlebell keychain. It's one of those "must haves" in the gym. It's tougher for kids to get because they come once or twice a week, have school vacations and dentist appointments and MCAS and all the things.

She did it and she's so proud! She's also one of the BEST smaller humans that I know. So kind, so thoughtful and wise beyond her years. Congratulations, D!

Warm-up Coach for the Muddy Princess 5K Mud Run for Women, June 21 Kimball Farm

This is a fundraiser for the National Breast Cancer Foundation

I’ve got 9 amazing women signed up so far—but imagine 20+ of us crossing that muddy finish line together, laughing, sliding, and cheering each other on.

✨ No running experience needed (whew!)
✨ No gym membership required
✨ All sizes, all ages. All inclusive event. (that's why I'm doing it)
✨ Just a willingness to get muddy, have fun, and feel like a total badass

Whether you’re a seasoned princess of mud or a first-timer who’s curious (those Curvy Girls can vouch—they had a BLAST last year 🎉), you belong on this team.
