We are kicking off our GRIT series this week! Due to quite a few requests for the material for those who cannot attend WT or WTC Groups, we will be providing all of the information here every week!
This week we are focusing on Mental Toughness, which is arguably just as, if not more, important as our riding and physical skills. Both in and out of the show ring, our mental space can greatly impact our performance and our outlook. We are encouraging all of our riders to do some self reflection this week on the key items listed below.
Our “homework” for the week is to create a vision board or journal including the following topics:
🌟 Positive self talk - what are some great qualities about myself that help me in life and my riding? What do I like about myself?
🌟 When it comes to riding and competing, what can I control?
🌟 Goals for the week, summer, and show season
🌟 Reflection on attitude and effort
🌟 Positive comments about horse partner
- What are the great things about my horse?
- What is my horse really good at?
- What are we good at together?
- How does my horse teach me and help me grow into a better rider?
Feel free to share your thoughts, vision board, or journal with your trainers and others who support you. If you find something you’ve realized you’ve been really struggling with through these concepts this week, be sure to talk to your trainer at your next lesson
