No need to run out and buy bread crumbs from the store... Sourdough makes DELICIOUS bread crumbs and croutons! Not only are they yummy, they are made from simple ingredients unlike the store bought ones. If either of these are something you'd like me to make for you, please let me know and I'll make it happen.

A few glances of today's life on the farm. I shelled peas; some for planting later and some for the freezer. I saved some okra seeds to dry. We worked on repairing the greenhouse roof that my turkeys had damaged so I can do some winter planting. I then decided to snap a few pictures of some of our residents, a tree frog and a horned devil caterpillar. That caterpillar was wild looking and so huge!

I spent part of this beautiful day planting herbs for cooking as well as some medicinal herbs. I had planted some earlier in the year but the long stretches of relentless rain took its toll on my little plants. I decided today was a great time to restart them for the fall. I plan to get a place situated for them so they aren't living in my dining room floor all fall and winter.
Planted today:
Mint
Echinecea
Yarrow
Lovage
Lemon balm
English Lavender
Chamomile
Thyme
Cilantro
Italian Oregano
Italian Parsley
Basil
Feverfew
Mugwort
Hyssop
St John's Wort
Anise
Valerian
The two biggest pots are lettuce

Quite a bit has transpired since my last post. I've had numerous appointments with different doctors. Hopefully a definitive diagnosis is in the way in the upcoming future.
Life here on the farm has been busy. With the bouts of rain we've had since spring and the extremely hot days, this hasn't been our most productive year for gardening. I am grateful though for everything that we have been able to harvest and put up to add to our pantry! God always provides! Last year was wonderful for gardening so I was able to can up enough pickles and vegetables allowing us to still be using those items now.
I'll post a few pictures below to show what we've been up to since my last post. I've made tomato sauce, canned beans, harvested corn and cut it from the ears to freeze. Okra is coming in good now so I've added some to the freezer. Chicken bone broth has been made and canned. I've also made homemade sourdough croutons and breadcrumbs. We try to utilize everything we can 'round here so that little is wasted.
I'm also keeping pretty busy with my little micro bakery, Liberty Loaf. Check out my page if you haven't done so. I'm happy to whip something up for you and most times only need a few days notice to do so. Please like and share my page so that I can expand my reach in the community. Thanks in advance!

Thanks to Mike Craig, our neighbor, we have a good start on on putting up corn for the summer.

I also included a photo of our newest hatchling here on the farm. Meet Ping. The other chicks are growing quickly and love hiding in mama hen's feathers when we come out to check on everyone.

Today was a busy day here on the farm. This morning, I worked in the garden for a bit before getting all the animals fed. I picked some peppers, tomatoes, green beans and cucumbers. I took some tomato suckers off the plants so I can root them and plant them later to extend our growing period.
Then, I came in and got the cucumbers and onions slices soaking to make bread and butter pickles. I made some sourdough croutons and a sourdough purple velvet cake(I was out of red dye) with homemade cream cheese icing. I made homemade hamburger buns and some pasta salad for tomorrow.
I mixed up some sourdough and it is now bulk fermenting. I'll bake it tomorrow after a second rise.
The pickles have now been canned.
Laundry is washed and the house has been cleaned up for family to come over tomorrow.
Whew, I'm one tired mama!

Oh, and we had a new chick hatch last evening! Now we have four new little ones to add to the flock. I have a few hens that are still sitting on eggs, both chicken and turkey, so hopefully we'll have more little fluff balls soon!

No need to buy a cobbler when they are so easy to whip up. Blackberry/strawberry cobbler was on the dessert menu here on the farm yesterday. 😋

An easy money saving tip from the farm: keep those soy sauce packets and pour them into a jar. Every little bit adds up!
