Did you know..... chickens lay fewer eggs in the fall and winter because they need 14 to 16 hours of daily daylight to trigger egg production.

Why It Happens

Shorter days: Less sunlight reduces the hormones in a chicken's brain that tell it to make eggs.

Molting: Chickens shed and regrow their feathers in the fall. This process uses a lot of protein and energy, so their bodies pause egg laying.

Energy conservation: Cold weather forces chickens to burn more calories just to stay warm instead of making eggs.

All of this said, this is why our egg prices go up during the fall and winter.
