Prairie Road Farm

Prairie Road Farm Sustainable Food for the Pacific Northwest Prairie Road Farm is a small family farm located on 20 acres at the base of Bow Hill. We sell lamb by the pound.

We raise pasture raised chickens for eggs and grass fed lamb. We also raise goats for pets, and we make and sell goat milk soap. It is vacuum packed and USDA processed by Island Grown Meat Cooperative, which means our sheep never have to be subjected to the stress of a processing facility - they have a mobile unit and are humanely processed in an on-farm environment. This allows us to personally e

nsure that our animals are treated humanely their entire lives. We produce the old fashioned way - our animals do not receive growth hormones or antibiotics as part of our standard practice. We believe caring for our animals is very important. They have access to pasture at all times and our family cares for them daily. We use non-GMO feed for our chickens and feed hay to the sheep when our pastures are low on fresh grass. We believe in keeping our farm small to serve our local community and ensure sustainability and environmental well being. Pricing (subject to change):

Eggs $6.50

Lamb -
Ground $10.00/lb
Roasts $10.00/lb
Shanks $8.50/lb
Steaks $12.00/lb
Chops $15.50/lb

Goat Milk Soap $7.50/bar

We also carry lamb bones, organ meat, ribs, and testicles (for the very adventurous). We process our lamb in small batches so sometimes we do run out of certain cuts. Please contact us if you would like to place an order, or for more information about product availability and pricing. Please ask for Maria if you call, and be aware that our phone rings to our home, so please call between 8 am and 9pm, any day of the week.

We at Prairie Road Farm are working diligently to keep your food safe, fresh and healthy now, and always. We continue to ensure that our eggs and meat are processed with care and your health in mind! We always use new, clean packaging for our food products: lamb is processed in a USDA inspected facility and eggs are packaged on site. We are careful to sanitize surfaces and we are limiting farm access to essential personnel only at this time.

We are still happy to accept orders for on-farm pick up, but please call or email ahead so that we can have your order set out for you to pick up! Thank you for your continued support. Best wishes during this difficult time from our family to yours!

Do you have an old barn on your property in Washington State that needs repair? You can register it with the Heritage Barn Register, which then makes you eligible to apply for a Historical Barn Grant Grant (a cost-share program that helps land owners repair historical barns). Historical registration is due Sept 27th, and barn grant applications are due October 23rd!

Thanks to this program, we were able to repair structural damage on our historical barn (built in 1912), and it is once again being used for housing animals and storing hay!

Interested in applying for a Heritage Barn Grant this fall? Don’t forget that in order to apply, your barn must be listed on the Heritage Barn Register, a statewide list of historically significant barns administered by the Department of Archaeology & Historic Preservation. The deadline to submit ...

Friday Creek runs through our farm, and feeds into the Samish River. Today, we found a fresh water muscle in our creek! We thought it was just a shell, but when we checked further, it was clearly alive! We put the little guy back where we found him.

Freshwater mussels are one of our favorite shellfish to find because they're generally considered a sign of good water quality*. These were found in the Samish River, under the Thomas Rd bridge. Freshwater mussels are considered the most globally threatened freshwater organism there is, so we're happy to see them here. Learn more about freshwater mussels here: http://tinyurl.com/ybk6j7xw

* Shellfish don't care about f***l coliform; that's a human health issue. Freshwater mussel survival will be more affected by temperature, oxygen, pH, nutrients, and other chemicals in the water.

Interested in raising sheep? This is a great article!

We raise Katahdin sheep. They shed their hair each spring, which means less work for us, but it also means we do not get fiber from them.

Feel free to contact us if you're interested in starting your own flock!

This time of year people think about adding sheep to their farms. Here are the typical questions that people starting their first flock of sheep ask me.
