The story -
Leanin On Grace is a bay paint, small in stature but big in try. Lewey, as he is better known, arrived at Sackett Ranch in November 2011 from Missouri. We had been competing against him all year in ARHA shows there, he was for sale, he could beat me in competition, and I tried hard to get my friend to buy him but she said no. I said are you sure? If you’re not I am, and we brought him home.
Lewey continued his career with various riders in the ranch horse shows, placing in a variety of events including ranch riding, ranch trail, reining, ranch reining, horsemanship, conformation, and even cattle classes though he would rather run from the cattle than chase them. Attending the ARHA World Show resulted with numerous Top 5 and Top 10 in Open and Youth divisions.
Lewey also went to open shows, pleasure and speed. Lewey competed in obstacle challenges, in the arena and out on the trails. I think the only obstacle he didn’t do was feeding the pigs, he didn’t like that! Again he won awards in Open and Youth division with various riders.
Lewey has helped us with clinics we put on, lessons for riders of all ages, he can spread calm for the person who’s afraid to touch a horse before they get on, and stand like a statue and not move once they are in the saddle. He can spice it up and make you work for your ride if he thinks you’re ready.
Lewey isn’t slowing down! He has riders ready to make more progress and more memories and continue their winning ways. Lewey carried Luke to win 2 buckles in 2025, and Luke is hungry for more.
I think I was drawn to this horse because he reminded me so much of another little bay paint horse we had, Mister. And I am a sucker for bay paints. Mister then, and now Lewey, have been the opening for us to meet so many people and build long lasting relationships. People that become so important to us over the decades. We are humbled and honored to have all these people be friends.
If you’re even on the fence about what to do, owning a horse, all the work and money that it takes, the time and the commitment, but most of all the rewards you can get from horses – BUY THE HORSE.
