Spring has sprung with the first babies of the year. Momma Spot has a ewe lamb named Luna and a ram lamb named Jesus. Let the games begin... Can't wait for fresh milk. Milk cow soon to follow.

My morning milking view, soul mending. I (Melissa) have been reading so many books this year, but 3 in particular really resonates.

Nourishment: What Animals Can Teach Us about Rediscovering Our Nutritional Wisdom by Fred Provenza is a book I read in June. It was a good start because I could see in my own life the ideas he talks about.

Then I read Omnivores Dilemma by Michael Pollan. This book shows how much of our food in America is a product of government policy, and not in the interest of the farmer or the consumer.

I am still reading Ultra Processed People by Chris Van Tulleken. Extraordinarily fascinating, with more to learn as I finish the book.

The take-away for me in this study is the only way to consume healthy nourishing food is to grow it yourself or know the producer. Beef from ethically raised and harvested cattle doesn't need a fancy marketing slogan because it has fed humans for thousands of years. I encourage anyone who struggles with food and health to check out these books.

Anyone looking for beef that will nourish your family, let me know. Gotta love ox-tail bone stock that cools to a solid mass of gelatinous gut nourishing delicious opportunities!

Two half brown swiss half balancer heifer calves for sale. February born and will be weaned this coming weekend. These could be family milk cows, nurse cows, or put two embryos in them! Their sisters raised 2 calves each on pasture this year as first calf heifers. Will halter break at weaning. 🥈OOO each. Located in Eastern Oregon 97720

Last chance to get Sassy while she is still in milk. Confirmed bred 2 year old brown swiss x balancer cow that raised 2 calves on pasture. Sure to wean next weekend, so pick her up before then and she will be in milk. I can train her to milk post weaning for an extra 250. 3️⃣000, located in Eastern Oregon, 97720. Halter broke and gentle, too many calves this spring to milk her then.

I wanted to thank my sister for the refreshing Italian tour. She is a brave and fierce human who will take her daughter and son on a months-long tour of Europe, and also work to provide safe and accessible raw milk for her community. Anything dairy related at LCS is because of my generous sister. I am incredibly lucky to have the most perfect adventure vacation partner ever. Last of the Swag Bags for 2023 is the essay contest!

Write an essay of "why you want to take a beef project". It doesn't have to be any length, open to anyone in Pee-Wee, open, 4-H or FFA completing their first year or will be taking a beef project next year. Can be steer, heifer or bucket calf.

How to enter...write up that essay and submit it to [email protected] Entries accepted up to deadline of October 9th at noon PST.

We are happy to double check to make sure we got your essay. And delighted you want to take a beef project! It is hard work, but worth it!!

Four rounds of Swag Bags contests have happened: jackpots, 4-H, FFA and the Pee-Wee members. And I can't thank you enough for everyone that has submitted photos! You have out done yourselves with exceptional photos!

I will continue to say that within each of these photos is a moment where you see all the hard work, the patience, the skill, the dedication and the pure love of showing livestock. We even have had exhibitors with chickens, goats, sheep and hogs join in.

And it is even more of a testament of what you do everyday as all our judges have had a difficult job selecting their two top photos!
