Not long ago, the Appalachian Mountains were covered with stands of the 'giant of the forest'; the great American Chestnut tree. However, in 1904 a devastating blight began, destroying them.
Prior to the blight, their delectable nut was a key part of American tradition. Mel Torme's 'Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire' pays tribute to this, portraying cozy holidays where the roasted aroma wafted thru America's homes, and the sweet taste was eagerly anticipated.
We are recreating this delicacy with our mountain orchard of patented American/Chinese hybrid trees, irrigated by artesian spring water and located in the rugged mountains of Yancey County; where these giants once dominated the landscape. Mountain Grown Chestnuts, LLC.
