Join us for our very first Harvest Share of the year. We have an abundance of fresh, locally grown produce to share for FREE. Everyone is welcome!

Did you know that 5 of our retailers accept EBT??? Yes, and you could be using that taxpayer 💵 to invest in all these local businesses (and eat the yummiest in town)! All of these shops sell a TON of high quality, healthy, and local products that you just simply can’t find in the big box store.

The Yancey Market, TRACTOR, & the High Country Fold Hub also use Double Up Food Bucks which DOUBLES your EBT to support local producers, stretching your budget even further. Wow!!🤩

Honestly, getting approved to accept EBT is a huge administrative burden, so let’s show these businesses it was worth it and invest in them!

Please share this so it reaches the right people!

Thanks builder Nick for building this beautiful turkey roost 💚 I guess our commercial kitchen project is cancelled, and we’ll just let the locals keep it as a community gathering spot 😂

Grab some ferments at these great local stores on this rainy week. We are SO grateful to partner with them to get our products out in the community (almost) every day of the week!

Also, have you tried our new Ramp Nettle Kraut yet? Not pictured, but it’s available at all 3 places 😎

We are also now at Bakery in Bakersville!

What an enormously busy week! We started a new field at our land this year to be our garden, and we planted the whole field in one day. I’m SO EXCITED about how the rye cover crop turned out. Planting each plant with instant mulch was SO satisfying.

We’re growing a mid of things for our family to eat and for fermenting: Tomatoes, peppers, hot peppers, butternut squash, potatoes (very late lol), carrots, sweet corn, and dry beans.

Planting, plus processing three HUNDRED lbs of gorgeous vegetables from and today. (That’s a real big kitchen day for us.)

and a couple late evenings this week at the farm dinner and the plant swap.

All fun stuff that we love doing, but boy am I wiped. That’s May for most farmers though. Thank your farmers, give them a hug, or better yet give them a foot rub! And thanks to all our helpers for lightening our load, esp our selfless friend Natalie :)

It’s been a beautiful spring on the farm! The elderberries are just about to burst full of bloom. A thick cover crop is going to make a great mulch base for our new garden field. And the babies and kitchen building are growing side by side every day!

& we’re still making kraut of course, thanks for staying in touch with us at the !

Wildfire mitigation tips!! Remove leaves from at least 5 feet from your home. Bare soil, rocks, etc, is best.

I didn’t mention this in the video bc you probably can’t get to it today, but removing all rhododendrons near your home is also SUPER important. Living rhododendrons are extremely flammable and make very long flame lengths! I don’t remember what the ideal distance is, but resources are available online. Look up Firewise, Defensible space, NC Forest service, y’all help me out and tag some orgs that share more detailed information.

I’m no expert, but this was good info for me to learn last night from of and the southern blue ridge prescribed burn association, so I wanted to share!!

Rocky and Dad built a new outhouse for all the folks who are starting on the building— concrete is getting poured this week, very exciting!! Thanks for your help Dad.

And the rest are all pictures of the kids planting trees & eating dirt… it’s good for the gut, I hear. (There still must be like a serving size or something though?)
