Tapping day 2026. This year’s operation is going to be smaller than past years. 2025 was a rough year for our family and we decided to scale back syrup season this year. Hoping to get back on track next season.

Weekly fridge cleanout = a nice snack for the chickens. We waste less food by adding our kitchen scrapes to the compost pile and our chickens help to turn this into rich soil for the garden.

Homeschool field trip today. The boys picked some Concord grapes at Covered Bridge Farms in Harpersfield. Tomorrow they will be making homemade grape jelly!

Today is hatching day! This month for preschool we learned about the life cycle of chickens and put 22 eggs in the incubator. We also built a compost bin that our flock will help turn into rich soil for our garden.

The boys were out this morning spraying down the orchard with diluted neem oil. Neem oil is organic and is a naturally occurring pesticide found in seeds from the neem tree. Neem oil helps with pest and disease control without all the harsh chemicals.
