Wild Root Brew is the oddball in our little beverage family ā and I mean that affectionately. šæ
It isnāt kombucha.
It isnāt water kefir.
It isnāt fermented at all.
So what exactly is this ā and why do we make it for you?
Itās a dark, roasted brew made from roots, grass-fed bovine collagen, and a lovely little organic mushroom blend.
And no ā this is not mushroom coffee.
The mushrooms are there because they add something delightful to the overall flavor and purpose of the brew, but they are not the main thing.
The collagen is there very intentionally.
And I know we have vegan and vegetarian people here, so I think itās fair to explain why we chose to use it.
When people talk about gut health, the conversation gets very focused on the microbiome.
Which matters.
A lot.
But the gut is more than the microbes living in it.
There is an actual physical barrier there too ā the intestinal lining, mucus, tight junctions, connective tissue, immune tissue ā all of it working together all day long.
Collagen is rich in amino acids like glycine and proline, and there is some interesting research looking at collagen peptides and intestinal barrier function. I've been about this for....like a long time - - at least 15 years.
But I want to be careful with that sentence because I do not mean ācollagen heals leaky gut.ā
What I do mean is that we have enough interesting research around collagen, connective tissue, amino acids, and barrier function that it made sense to us as part of what we were trying to create.
And really, this is how Wild Root Brew fits into the rest of what we make.
Kombucha and Water Kefir are ferments. Microbes are doing the work there ā transforming sugars and creating acids, metabolites, flavor, bubbles, complexity.
Wild Root Brew is coming at the gut conversation from a completely different direction.
No fermentation.
No microbe-rich claim.
Just a really good roasted drink made with ingredients we chose because they made sense together.
The more I learn about the gut, the less interested I am in reducing it to one thing.
It isnāt just ātake probiotics.ā
Itās the microbes.
Itās the intestinal barrier.
Itās what we feed the whole system.
Itās how all of those things interact.
It's the thoughts we think and the way we (choose) to move through the world.
I think you're going to love this.
