AmeriFLECK Dairy Genetics - News
AmeriFLECK Dairy Genetics, along with AMS Genetics and AI Total US, offering the first Geneseek/Igenity tested Dairy Fleckvieh bulls born, raised, and collected in the United States. Semen from six bulls backed by outstanding cow families have now been aAa Analyzed by the aAa Weeks Organization due to the growing number of dairymen that use the mating system.
The aAa Animal Analysis was developed by William A. Weeks, a Vermont Holstein breeder and classifier, in 1950 and was based on his detailed study of the form and function of dairy cows and bulls. The aAa Animal Analysis continues to be used by dairy breeders in the United States and around the world.
AmeriFLECK Dairy Genetics was founded by Marvin J. Johnson, DVM 13 years ago when semen and embryos were imported through Bayern, Spermex and CRV to provide a genetic base on which the current herd of 750 animals was built. An intensive embryo transfer program has been utilized to rapidly increase the number of calves from superior female lines. Annually, 30 to 40 young bulls are retained for genomic testing to provide a source of new bulls.
The Fleckvieh breed is rapidly gaining popularity in the United States with over 300,000 animals, and is the second most populous breed in the world with over 42 million head of cattle. The Fleckvieh are docile, quiet, long-lived, fertile and incredibly trouble-free cattle that can compete in all environments while still producing ample milk with high components (4.2% fat and up to 3.8% protein) and low somatic cell counts. Milking persistence is excellent in the breed and well managed herds are achieving milk production levels exceeding 25,000 pounds.
AmeriFLECK Dairy Genetics has updated the website with the aAa Analysis numbers on each bull. AmeriFLECK Dairy Genetics is pleased to offer these first 6 bulls that are now available for dairy farmers to use in crossbreeding, absorption, purebred and three-way rotational breeding programs.
