Oh rut, our least favorite time of year

There’s no such thing as a holiday weekend on farm! Animals and crops always need tended to and we often have families staying or visiting with us and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We were delighted to squeeze in an Animal JOY Session Class with today for a beautiful family on their way home to Chicago. I am constantly encouraged by new friends such as these from around the world, to keep pressing on and share agriculture with all who come to Parkside Farm. We believe we have something special here and we are so glad the families who visit agree ❤️🐰

Today we laid my brother in law Bryan to rest. It was a beautiful service and time for the family to gather and grieve. The service was a wonderful reminder that life is short and fleeting. It reflected Bryan’s faith in Jesus and shared an invitation to anyone who does not know the Lord to receive Him as their personal savior. Though we will miss Bryan here on earth, we know we will see him again. He fought so hard for many years against the cancer that left him in pain and suffering. During the service, I couldn’t help but see his smiling face in my mind, healed and whole in Heaven. Memorial flowers like these have become my favorite flower arrangements to put together this year. There’s something cathartic and healing arranging every stem and flower with intention to memorialize a loved one for those left behind. My husband Ken, had the privilege of building his brother’s custom casket. Ken has made several custom caskets over the years by request. Bryan owned a trash service business for many years. We all think he would have got such a kick out of this custom work of art. It had working wheels and headlights, too. Thank you all who sent your condolences and prayers during this time. Thank you everyone for your patience as I’ve been a little quiet as of late. Fall is now here and I’m looking forward to getting pumpkins, gourds and cornstalks in the market very soon!

We have had SUCH a tremendous year at the farm house rental this year, I’ve lost count the number of reservations we’ve had. Whether you’ve booked direct, through Airbnb, Booking.com or VRBO, words can’t express how grateful I am for all of our families and work groups who have stayed and supported the farm. We have some fall and winter date availability for 2026. We have started booking for summer and fall 2027 dates. Last week I had the honor of capturing Zach's senior portraits here at the farm! A few years ago I captured his older brother Trent's senior portraits. It's been a joy to see both of these young men grow up into gentlemen! Thank you Dana and Sean for trusting me with this special honor 📷

Last Friday, I attended a funeral burial with two of our goats for a very special young man who we had got to know earlier this year as we provided goats for his prom send off. Friday we also experienced a death on my husband’s side of the family. There’s a lot that’s been weighing on me lately and thus, I’ve decided to take a step back this week to regroup. The market will be open this week Monday - Wednesday 10am - 9pm. The market will be closed Thursday and Friday this week. I’ll not be taking any appointments at the farm until next week Monday. Custom flower orders will be available Monday and Tuesday this week and resume this coming Saturday. A special floral arrangement I made this weekend for our beloved family member. Thanks for your understanding and patience ❤️
