They bloomed about 7-10 days earlier than usual... And I'm not sad about it 😍🤣

All of our Peonies are available, first come first serve, at our self-serve Flower House farm stand. Sorry, we do not accept orders or ship flowers.

🌸Located on the NW corner of 100th St and Homerich Ave in Byron Center. 📣NOTE: The Flower House has its own driveway. Don’t pull into our home driveway 🚫🏠 Our dogs will let you know you’re in the wrong place. 😉

🌸Open 8am-8pm, Tuesday - Saturday

🌸Closed on Sunday and Monday

🌸Please pull your vehicle ALL THE WAY UP to the white fence by the Flower House. Do NOT block the driveway as it causes traffic issues.

🌸Flower House is self-serve.

🌸We accept: Cash, Check and Credit Card

🌸Flowers are either on the bench or in the floral cooler, depending on the day.

🌸If you pull a flowers out of the bucket to look at them, but put them back, MAKE SURE THEY'RE IN THE WATER. Flowers left out of water have to be thrown away.😫

🌸There is a sink with water 💦 in the Flower House. Bring your own vase… or check our selection of donated vases under the payment counter.

🌸Please do not bring your dog to the farm.🚫🐶 Our farm dogs are trained to protect our livestock from stray/loose dogs and they will consider your dog to be a threat.

📢They're back!!!! Dahlia Tuber Grab Bags: $20 = 4 tubers

Available in our self-serve Flower House ONLY. Sorry, we don't ship these. 🚫

The Flower House is open Tuesday - Saturday, 8am - 8pm.

A few things to know:

✅These are our “second-quality” tubers, the same ones we plant on our farm. They might be smaller, ugly, or a bit wrinkly, but they are ready to grow!

✅Tubers are unlabeled. You won't know the variety until they bloom. Take a photo of the variety list below and save it. You'll want to refer back to it to ID your plants when your “mystery dahlias” start to flower.

✅Please note: Each tuber was checked for a visible eye 👀 (sprout) before we packed it in the bag. Sometimes the eye breaks off during handling. No worries… the tuber will grow a new eye to replace the one that broke!

A quick “behind the scenes” view of how we transform muddy, messy Tulips from the field into beautiful bunches for you to display!

✅Step 1: When the Tulips are juuuuuuust starting to open up, we harvest them as quickly as possible. Depending on the weather conditions, we may need to harvest once a day or 3-4x a day. Tulips ripen FAST in hot weather, so it’s a race to catch them BEFORE they open!🔥💨😳

✅Step 2: Once harvested, we store the entire stem, bulb and all, in crates in our walk-in cooler at about 36-38° F 🥶 When the bulb is still attached, Tulips can be stored dry like this for up to 4 weeks (super helpful if you want to reserve some Tulips for a later date!). The Tulips tend to all ripen in a 1-2 week window, so it’s a mad dash to harvest them and Tetris all the crates in our cooler. 😵‍💫🤣

✅Step 3: When we’re ready to sell the Tulips, it’s time to “process” them. We start by snapping off the bulbs and removing the bottom leaf.

And because I know you'll ask 🙂... we don't reuse/replant the bulbs. Once the bulb is removed from the stem/leaves, it has no way to photosynthesize (gather light and regenerate itself for the next season). On a flower farm, we treat Tulips as Annuals. If you grow them in your landscaping, you treat them as a short-lived Perennial.

✅Step 4: Time to wash the Tulips! 💦These stems and leaves are covered in mud, dirt, and debris. We place them on a mesh “table” and spray off each stem, one by one, to clean them up.

✅Step 5: Now that they are clean, it’s time to bunch them, rubber band them, and wrap them in paper.

✅Step 6: The finished product! 💐Tulips are lovely and long-lasting in the vase. They are also the only flower I know of that keeps growing after it’s been cut. 😮 So if you notice your Tulips seem taller each day in the vase… they ARE!!! Go ahead and give them a little trim as needed! ✂️

This topic is a total GAME-CHANGER for cut flower growers.

Knowing the difference between:

❄️Hardy Annuals
and
🔥Heat-Loving Annuals

While all of the plants in this category are technically Annuals (as opposed to Biennials, Perennials, etc), the two groups behave VERY differently.

They are planted at different times.
They bloom at different times.
Timing is EVERYTHING!

Once you master the timing of these two groups of cut flowers, you can have beautiful flowers to harvest for MONTHS instead of just WEEKS.
