Do you already have dewormer resistance on your farm?
You might be surprised.
Researchers tested 46 sheep and goat farms in the southeastern United States.
They found barber-pole-worm resistance on:
98% of farms to benzimidazole dewormers
76% to ivermectin
54% to levamisole
Nearly half of the farms—48%—had resistance to all three major dewormer classes.
And that study was published back in 2008.
The scary part about resistance is that you usually don't know you have it until a sick goat fails to improve.
A bottle on the shelf is not the same thing as an effective treatment.
That's why we monitor FAMACHA scores, use f***l testing, avoid unnecessary treatments, and breed goats that can remain healthy under parasite pressure.
