Time for Staff Picks!

This week, we a mostly Chenin Blanc blend from South Africa that has developed some incredible honey and tropical fruit notes, but it’s bone dry on the palate.

We also have Marquette, which is a Frankenstein grape created at the University of Minnesota. It’s a hardy, cold-weather grape that balances acidity with tart red fruit notes. This one comes from Western NY!

Staff Pick time!!

This week we have a Cabernet from Washington that has the fruity characteristics of a new world Cab paired with the refinement of a wine from Europe. Incredibly easy to drink for a big wine.

And we have a French red blend from the Rhône Valley. Juicy, fruity, and earthy all while being incredibly refreshing. This is a great red to try chilled!

The Caiparinha

A Brazilian classic made from Cachaça (a sugarcane distillate similar to rum,) lime, and sugar. This drink is air conditioning in a glass. Perfect for the hot summer days ahead of us.

2 oz unaged Cachaça
1 lime, cut into 8 segments
3 teaspoons granulated sugar

Muddle your lime and sugar in a shaker to dissolve the sugar and release the lime juice as well as the aromatic oils in the lime skins. Add your Cachaça and ice and shake to chill and dilute. Then dump the contents of the shaker into a rocks glass and add more ice if necessary. Enjoy!

Staff Picks are in! This week, we’re headed to Europe for some holiday weekend refreshers.

First, we have a Lambrusco Grasparossa, a sparkling red from Italy. This one in particular has less perceived sugar and more tannic structure than its Lambrusco relatives, making it the perfect pairing for an afternoon of grilling.

Then, we head to the Basque region of Spain for a Getariako Txakolina (Geh-tah-ree-ah-koh Chah-koh-lee-nah.) Hard to say, easy to love. This light and zippy white has notes of citrus and a long finish. The perfect accompaniment to seafood, or just a great wine to sip and beat the heat.

Another weekend looming = Another set of Staff Picks!

Pat’s Pick this week is a Hunter Valley (Australia) Semillon. Originally from France, Semillon was often blended with Sauvignon Blanc in white Bordeaux blends to soften Sauvvy B’s acidity. On its own, expect some refreshing citrus and Granny Smith apple flavors without any overbearing acidity.

Dave is bringing you a rosé from Turkey to prepare you for a sunny weekend here in the Catskills. This rosé has flavors of raspberries and strawberries. Pair either (or both, I mean c’mon) of these wines with all your favorite summer foods.
