Indigo Farms Market is a small family farm in the Calabash, NC and Little River, SC area, operated by Sam and Sarah Bellamy along with their daughter, on land that has been farmed by Sam’s family members for several generations. The majority of what we grow is produced using Organically Based Methods (since we're not currently USDA certified our produce is not referred to as organic produce.) Ther

e are a few crops where the seed or plants that we are able to get are not organic, or crops that come with special growing challenges that we haven't found suitable organically based remedies for. Even with these crops we use as many organically based methods as possible and as few other treatments as we can. Our goal is to work with and to improve our environment rather than to work against it. The fields that were formerly certified (from 2003 - 2021) as organic are still maintained as they were while they were certified. We also make it a priority to plant non-GMO seed. Our vision is to create an environment that fosters the native plants, insects, and wildlife that naturally keep the harmful insects and plants in check. We have an on-site Farm Market that is open three days a week. We are also at two markets in the Myrtle Beach area during the week: The Myrtle’s Market location is at the corner of Oak Street and 10th Ave in Myrtle Beach. This is on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9:00-3:00; April thru October. The International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach has their farmer’s market on Thursdays from 12:00-3:30. The bakery next to our Farm Market is currently under separate management as a restaurant. Their number is 910-287-6652.

Okra provides more than a tasty vegetable. It grows into an entire habitat for insects, snail and the smallest juvenile frogs and lizards. The flowers close as the day approaches noon and the plants grow tall enough to be safely above most weeds. It is also one of the few vegetables that seem to love the hot and humid August weather.
