Balsam fir wreaths are made of balsam tips, a metal ring and wire. A wreath is manually assembled by attaching bunches of balsam tips to the ring with wire. Balsam fir wreath making is a tradition of the Mingo family for over 50 years - never late and always impeccable.

Did you know that balsam fir has both male and female flowers (or strobili) on the same tree? Flowers are receptive in late May to early June. The species is wind pollinated, and cones mature in a single season. At maturity, cones are 2 to 3 1/2 inches long with bracts shorter than scales. Upon ripening from September to November, cones fall apart leaving an erect central core. Cool, huh?
