Seeing Farm Manager - Caldwell Idaho
Job title: Assistant Farm Manager
Operating for nearly a century, Weitz Farms is one of Idaho’s premier farms. Located in Caldwell, the 2000-acre, family operated farm focuses on specialty crops including mint, onions, alfalfa seed, corn and wheat.
Responsibilities
● Works closely with owner and farm manager to execute overall crop plan and complete day-to-day tasks associated with crop production and management
● Responsible for managing the planting, production, and harvest of onions and alfalfa seed with the potential to work on seed crop production
● Manage field operations including irrigation scheduling, along with the application of chemical and fertilizer, and pest management
● Coordinate with owner and farm manager on labor management
● Work with farm management on suggestions for new improvements and practices to support a more efficient operation
Required Qualifications
● Experience developing annual agronomy plans with solid knowledge of agronomic practices that deal with improving crop outcomes including irrigation systems (drip irrigation, pivots, etc.), soil health, w**d and pest control, and fertility management
● Familiarity with all farm equipment including harvesters, trucks, and farm implements and the ability to perform repairs and maintenance
● Ability to work with multiple employees to execute crop plan and daily operational tasks
● Ability to physically work in an industrial/farming environment with extended hours during peak seasons
● Regularly attends educational seminars and meetings and works well with vendors, suppliers, and other parties that interact with the farm
● Valid driver’s license and good driving record
● Office skills including managing crop records and certifications
● Strong work ethic, organizational skills, and honest character
Preferred Qualifications
● 3-5 years of experience successfully managing row crops on a
small-medium sized farm including direct experience growing alfalfa seed, onions and seed crops
Salary and Benefits
This is a salaried position with pay dependent upon experience with profit sharing based on annual crop profitability. Candidates will be provided with a work pickup truck.
