Research from American Farmland Trust and Boise State University shows alarming Treasure Valley working lands conversion trends, but what does that mean for our communities? Presenters Shannon Porter (American Farmland Trust) & Gwénaëlle d'Aumale, (Boise State University) will ground us in the data that underpins the community impacts of business as usual, such as tax implications for counties, accessibility of farmland for the next generation of Treasure Valley farmers, and increased conflicts between competing land uses.

Taproots Farm Hub is here to help reduce barriers to starting a farm. Investment in infrastructure is just one part of the cost to starting a farm.

At Taproots Farm Hub, our mission is to cultivate the next generation of Treasure Valley farmers by providing a supportive incubator that offers shared land, equipment, infrastructure, and market access.

We are dedicated to fostering sustainable farming practices through mentorship and collaboration, empowering aspiring farmers to thrive in direct-market agriculture and contribute to a vibrant local food system.

Taproots is excited to help present the Organic Ag Field Day: Spotlight on Symphylans

The Organic Ag Field Day: Spotlight on Symphylans will explore organic and sustainable approaches to Integrated Pest Management in small farms and gardens. University of Idaho Extension professionals and local vegetable and cut flower producers will showcase the latest research and lessons learned on a specific, difficult pest: the garden symphylan. This soil dwelling insect-relative can decimate many different crop types and is particularly difficult to manage in organic systems.

Food-borne cyclosporiasis in 47 states, and cases of salmonella are byproducts of our reliance on a distant, industrial food supply.

Small-scale, local agriculture can help us avoid these ills. Taproots exists to support small-scale farmers and aspiring farmers through our aspiration to build the first of its kind incubator farm in Idaho.
