At this workshop we bring a regenerative farmer together with their meat processor to discuss field to plate. We will cover pasture management and how it affects carcass yield. Father's Day is right around the corner!

Celebrate dad this year with some live music in the quarry. On June 20th at 6pm, we will have father-son duo Eric and Dan Hanson. They play a variety of acoustic jams from bluegrass to classic rock.

Bring your own picnic, beverages, blanket, or camping chairs and settle in for a relaxed summer evening outdoors with family, friends, and community.

There’s something special about getting kids' hands in the soil.

Recently, Tedd spent the morning with the students at Blackhawk Learning Connection, starting in the classroom where we talked about the life cycle of a plant. Each student got to repot a basil plant and take it home to continue growing.

Then we headed out to the farm, where the kids helped plant brussel sprout seedlings and got a chance to experience farming firsthand. They were curious, excited, and ready to jump in and help.

Moments like these remind us why connecting young people to food, farming, and nature matters. We’re excited to continue welcoming these students to the farm and watching their knowledge grow alongside the crops this season. 🌱💚

Last night, Farmers Rising took a big step towards making a mobile grocery store a reality for Rockford. Jackie de Batista, our Executive Director, went before City Council to make a formal funding request, asking for more than $800,000 over a 3 year period to help launch the project. While the motion to discuss was not taken up by the Planning and Development Committee last night, it will come back before them for consideration once again on June 22.

De Batista told City Council members "At Farmers Rising, we believe everyone deserves access to fresh, healthy food. The Rockford Mobile Grocery Store will bring choice, dignity, and affordability to neighborhoods that have too often been left behind, and we look forward to partnering with the City of Rockford to make this vision a reality."

This project is being implemented in partnership with the multi-agency Food Insecurity Taskforce and City Center Market

Our new chickens are settled in! 🐥

These babies started out in the barn in the comfort of their brooder. Once they were fully feathered, they moved into their new coop. We kept them inside for a few days so they could learn where home was before opening the doors.

Last week they got their first taste of pasture, and they have been busy ever since. Scratching, foraging, chasing bugs, and exploring every corner they can find.

It's always fun to watch. One day they're raised indoors, and the next they're out on open ground doing exactly what chickens were meant to do.

Not a bad life for a chicken. ❤️🐔

One of the biggest challenges with high tunnel growing is temperature control. On sunny days, tunnels can heat up fast, and too much heat can quickly stress or damage plants.

This new thermostat-controlled automatic side roll up unit from Nifty Hoops will help regulate temperatures by automatically opening and closing the tunnel sides as needed. 🌱 A big thanks to Rockford Housing Authority for making this all possible.

We’re excited to see how this technology improves growing conditions and helps protect crops throughout the season. Big thanks to Tedd for continuing to problem solve and invest in better systems on the farm.
