Took a break from farming and market this weekend for my birthday and a little reset before the August Scaries hit. Kinda like Sunday Scary but for the entire month of August. Farming in August is hard. It’s hot, it’s dry, nothing wants to germinate. The wild critters are hungry for the only green stuff for miles. We’re tired, the farm’s tired. But we will persevere, if only by the skin of our teeth. Anyway, had a great weekend with good friends, peak swimming, and too much food. Let’s get back to it.

We try to be low-till here on the farm. Tillage breaks up soil structure, it’s loud, we have to use fossil fuels which can get expensive. But every once in a while a field gets away from you and you have to start over quick. And man do I love the way the soil looks when it’s done. On another note - finally getting the milpa patch in. Better late than never. Hopefully we can get something out of it before the frost. Cutting it real close tho 😅

Here at Trail’s End Farm we feed our chickens and ducks only the highest quality feed. They especially like red heads 😂
