A Year in the Life of our Vine, Alexander the Grape 🍇 We have berries! Sir Grape has successfully pollinated his flowers and now they have become grapes, which we call fruit set. Through the summer, he will be putting his energy into making delicious Zinfandel grapes, essential for delicious Zinfandel wine🍷

Happy Flag Day!
This flag was sent to us last year when our cellar master, Paul Curreri, was deployed in Iraq. It had flown over the base and now proudly flies at Storybook.

A Year in the Life of Alexander the Grape continues🍇

Alexander has been flowering🌼 Efflorescence, aka flowering, is the stage right before we see the fruit. Each flower has the potential to be pollinated and become a berry.

Along with flowering, Alexander’s canes have been trained up into the wires to allow for air flow while protecting the fruit from the hot afternoon sun. Grapes coming soon!

Happy 89th birthday, Jerry! Still out doing his favorite things - driving the tractor, teaching Gen 3 the vineyard and winemaking, and reminding us all that he’ll still win every family game!

Happy Friday! A year in the life of our vine keeps going strong🌱
It has been 7 weeks since pruning, and he is looking like a full grapevine now. He got some organic compost added to the soil, which provides many benefits, including water retention, disease prevention, and nutrition.
We expect Alexander the Grape to flower any day now!

Happy Earth Day!
At Storybook Mountain, we try to keep our environmental impact a positive one. Some ways in which we steward this piece of paradise include:
☀️ We have been powered by solar for over a decade!
💚 Our vineyard is organically grown for the safety of our community and environment
🐝 While vineyards are self-pollinating, we plant cover crops to support the bees while keeping the soil healthy.
🚚 We source our bottles from right here in California to minimize the use of fossil fuels.
🌲 two thirds of Storybook’s 120 acres of land remains a forest full of wildlife.

Welcome back to A Year in the Life if a Vine!
It has been about four weeks since our vine was pruned, and now he is in a new stage called ✨Inflorescence✨This is when we see the new flower buds that will become flowers and eventually delicious Zinfandel grapes!

Greetings from Alexander the grape 🍇
On this day in a year in his life, he has grown a few inches on most of his spurs. It has been 14 days since pruning. After the very warm March, him and the rest of the vines are grateful for this rainy weather. Growth spurt coming soon!

Welcome back to A Year in the Life of our vine, Alexander the Grape 🍇
Bud break alert! Sir Grape has put his energy into growing some baby leaves. From the beautiful dewy drop where he was pruned, we can see that he is hydrated and his sap is flowing.
While he was working hard on his buds, his vineyard section was tilled by the winemaker/tractor driver to integrate the cover crop material into the soil for nutrients.
