A mini horse saddle pad that actually fits my 35” mini horse!

Princess is an American Miniature horse and while definitely not a “typey Arabian show mini”, she’s also not a “stock type build” either. She falls somewhere in the middle. She has a really short back and a small barrel.

My tack, if you have seen my content on other platforms, is always “just for fun”, there is no mini horse riding. But when I started posting on Facebook a few months ago, a particular video with a silly white saddle and hibiscus conchos struck a nerve. Lots of people were horrified by my “clearly not to be taken seriously” tack. Especially my saddle blanket. Why people freaked out about a soft woven blanket eludes me to this day, but it caught the attention of Hustle and Home and that was a definite positive outcome!

The owner reached out and said she could send me a miniature horse contoured felt saddle pad that she thought would be a better fit. The contouring is the real game changer if you have a short backed miniature horse or pony. Even though my other saddle blanket was not much bigger than this one, it bridged. The Hustle and Home blanket forms to the withers and contours across her back. Princess only plays dress up as a Barrel Pony, but if you have a real rider doing real riding, I think you would find this pad stays in place better than a flat saddle pad. And they come in lots of cute colors with custom wear patches in fun patterns to match your mini horse tack.

Pippa is demonstrating the face I made when I recently read a post that said all “horse girls” are wealthy. I just drove 40 minutes one way to buy a $20 used trough off Facebook Marketplace. That is level of wealth I’m working with.

Don’t get me wrong, I know I’m blessed to have horses of any kind (mine are all tiny) and I am very grateful for my family that helps make owning them possible. But I also have never set foot in a nail salon, have always cut my own hair, and all of my clothes come from the thrift store. My truck is 10 years old and my horse trailer is rusty. If you really love horses, you can do it. Maybe it’s not owning a $30k made show horse, maybe it’s volunteering at a horse rescue or just having mini horses. Horse girls can exist at any price point.

Mermaid Braids on my mini horse! The last time I made a herringbone-style braid on Instagram, there was much arguing in the comments if it was called a “fishbone braid” or a “fishtail braid”. 😆

I don’t know the correct term, so I’m calling these long mane braids, a “mermaid braid”. I’ll post the tutorial later today and you can give them a try and call them whatever you like!

It’s soooooo cute!!! Hustle and Home made the Princess this custom girly lavender and leopard saddle pad and I couldn’t wait to post it. Why not just post it on the pony? Because I’m not technically finished with the purple mini tack set to match the purple mini saddle pad 😅 Notice there is no bridle, only a breastcollar. Yes, Hustle and Home actually fabricated an entire saddle blanket (a miniature horse saddle blanket but still…) and mailed it to me before I could finish gluing rhinestones on leather. Color me impressed and partially sparkly 🤩
