We would like to stop and take a moment to thank everyone who gets up and goes to work every day to keep our communities going: first responders, watermen, farmers, tradesmen, teachers, retail employees, and small business owners and so many, many more.

We thank you for all that you do and hope you get to do something just for you today—you deserve it! Happy Labor Day!

Just a quick update on how the girls have done the last few weeks with settling in and acclimating to us and life here at BCF.

The Herefords are still skittish, but the angus are becoming more tolerant of being touched and sharing their space with us. They haven’t quite gotten the hang of taking treats from us, and if you’re not paying attention they’ll try to swallow your whole hand. Thank goodness they don’t have top and bottom teeth.

The calves are starting to be more curious of us than scared, and they don’t dash off to lay down and hide in the grass, they stay where the action is.

They all get along, and if Aurora’s interactions with the calves are any indication, she’s going to be a great momma.

They don’t come up to us and demand neck scratches and love like our Jerseys yet, but they do meet us at the gate for dinner. Baby steps.

The dogs wouldn’t stop barking at the back door, so I walked in to see what the fuss was all about. Found a gang of juvenile delinquents on the back porch harassing them through the window.

We still have a handful of turkeys if anyone is looking for a few. Better let me know soon though, before our older birds completely corrupt them and they believe they’re above the law.

We brought home two Angus cows with their calves today.

First lesson learned: beef mamas do not mess around when it comes to protecting their babies. One mama's warning moos have earned her the name Mina (short for minacciosa—Italian for menacing). She had me backing away, very slowly 😅. The other mama has white splashes on her face, so for now we’re just calling her patches. Not sure if it’ll stick. No names for the calves yet until they finish quarantine and can show off their personalities.

Poor Meatball is in his pasture, bellowing non-stop. He wants to play with the new friends and does not like sharing the attention at all.

The Hereford triplets spent all week hiding in the far back corner of the pasture, but today’s vocal new arrivals immediately brought out their nosy sides. Now everybody wants front-row seats to the action.

It’s officially official: We brought these beauties home this weekend, and Bella Cow Farms is now a working beef cattle operation. 🥰
There are no words for the joy that comes from looking out and seeing cows on the new pasture. Every bit of hard work and sweat it took to get here was worth it.

Meet the ladies:

Aurora is currently bred with what will be BCF’s first beef calf, so it was only fitting to name her after the Roman goddess of dawn to commemorate the beginning of this chapter.
Michael picked the name Carmella for our second little lady, which coincidentally is a name often associated with growth. She and our third little girl aren’t bred, but they’ll be meeting Mr right (hopefully) very soon and changing that.
And last but not least, lovely lady number three…who doesn't have a name yet!

🇺🇸Happy 250th birthday America!🇺🇸

We are so grateful for all of the freedoms and liberties we are afforded as citizens of the best damned country in the world!

When I look out at our fields today, I can’t help but get a little teary eyed reflecting on the sheer grit that built this nation. Two and a half centuries ago, ordinary people stepped out into the absolute unknown. They faced unpredictable elements, terrifying risks, and zero guarantees but they had a vision, and they refused to quit just because the path was hard.

Every freedom we enjoy today was bought and paid for by the immense sacrifices of the generations who came before us. They dared to imagine a completely new kind of country, fought to turn those ideas into a reality, and built the foundation of the nation we love today. They designed a land of liberty, and had the courage to stand up and fight for and defend those freedoms we get to wake up to every single morning.

Chasing our dream is an honor we don't take for granted. It is hard work, but it’s American work. We are so incredibly proud to be part of this legacy, rooted in this land, and raising the next generation to respect and cherish it.

God bless the dreamers, the defenders, and God bless the United States of America. 🗽🦅✨
