Weaned calves on one side while mommas are on the other.

We weaned this group of calves about 2 weeks ago, in this spot here, across from their mommas. Fence line weaning is by far the most effective method for weaning. Less stress on both, quicker recovery for calf, increased feed consumption, and overall a better weaning experience.

Babies don't hesitate to put their heads down and eat. Mommas are a bit jealous of them eating so much 😅

Did you know cows have babysitters?

It is really interesting to observe herd dynamics.

We had just moved this group of pairs to a new pasture. This pasture has 2 sections, the hay meadow and a pond, which is separated by a gate. Calves are notorious for not being able to find the gate. We can't put the cows on just the hay meadow portion because there is no water source so we have to utilize the other portion.

The mamas of these babies left them in the hay meadow with a qualified babysitter (another mama). When babies woke up they could not find mama (they left for the pond) and started to panic. We located mamas on the pond side of the fence and started to push the babies that direction. Babysitter mama and her calf accompanied them until the were reunited. ☺️

This bull is out of our herd Sire and a commercial dam that goes back to Hickok. He is a stout made, deep bodied, structurally sound bull that will do great on commercial females. He really does have it all just not a AAA number.

We are proud to start sharing the videos of the bulls with their lot numbers! This is the 0415 bull which sells as lot 64. He is going to make someone a great bull that will add muscle and structure to the calf crop. He is easy to work, extremely docile, and ready to go!
