ChardonnYAY! This pretty girl in her Catalina Mariposa Lily label got 93 points from Wine Enthusiast. I’ve found my Chardonnay, aged in neutral French oak barrels, manages to make everyone happy: from the stainless seekers to the butterheads to Chard skeptics, everyone leaves refreshed. Looks like Wine Enthusiast agrees!

Excuse me, look at HER 👀
Finally labeled my lovely 2022 Sta Rita Hills AVA Chardonnay, featuring the Catalina Mariposa Lily. My whites are aged in neutral French Oak barrels. I find this, plus this gal’s racy, coastal acid, pleases both the butter chasers and the biggest Chardonnay skeptics. This beaut, plus another white, coming ssssoon. Stay tuned.

Our latest release, fresh at you with a brand new review: 2021 Ballard Canyon AVA Roussanne. The label art, by .rowley.art (as always) features a Lesser Goldfinch among purple sage. Available in the shop at boltto.com

This is a flat-out gorgeous wine, crisp and spicy but with plenty of that creamy Rhone goodness the variety MUST have. Fairly deep yellow in the glass, with golden hues along the rim. Rich oak fills the nose, adding wonderful texture to lush floral blossom: wilted lily and flush camellia with dark guava and banana filling the tropical score-card.

Steely and flint-driven on the tongue, applesauce and pear coursing in with time, a bright vitamin-C pang poking at all receptors. Over the middle, the sharp acidity continues, while some of that oak smooths and fluffs the brightness into a well-balanced shock of color and nuance. Green apple and even greener apricot drives a finish where white-wine tannin generates plenty of rasp and guarantee ageability. These wines never disappoint and here is yet another winner for now or the cellar.
