Thank you to Produce Pals Grant Supporter, Camas Washougal Community Chest!

The Camas Farmer's Market is proud to recognize the Camas-Washougal Community Chest as a longtime supporter of our market and our community.

Established in 1946, the Camas-Washougal Community Chest was founded by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to coordinate fundraising efforts for local nonprofits serving the Camas and Washougal area. For nearly 80 years, the organization has supported 501(c)(3) nonprofits working in areas such as poverty, hunger, and homelessness; education and youth activities; health, welfare, and special needs; natural resource conservation; civics, culture, arts, and history; and crisis and emergency services.

Support from organizations like the Camas-Washougal Community Chest helps make it possible for the Camas Farmer's Market to continue providing access to fresh food, supporting local farms and small businesses, and creating a welcoming gathering place for our community.

We are grateful for their continued partnership and their longstanding commitment to strengthening the Camas-Washougal area for generations to come!

Basil is a summertime favorite at the farmers market and with good reason! This fragrant herb loves sunshine and thrives in well-drained soil, needing at least 6 to 8 hours of light each day to really flourish. Thinking of growing it at home? You can absolutely plant it outdoors, just wait until the danger of frost has passed (around May, to be safe).

One of the best things about basil is that you can harvest it all season long. Just snip young leaves as needed for cooking, and be sure to pinch off any flower spikes when they appear. They may look pretty, but they take energy away from leaf production and can affect flavor.

At the end of the season, don’t let your bounty go to waste! Basil can be dried or frozen, helping you bring that fresh market flavor into your kitchen all year long.

This week, get ready to move with World Class Martial Arts - Vancouver at the Kids Connection booth! Kids will have the opportunity to get active, practice simple martial arts skills, and learn a little about focus, self control, and calming their minds. It's a fun and engaging way to build confidence while burning off some energy at the market.

Every child who participates will earn a $2 Produce Pals Token, which can be used to buy fresh fruits and veggies at the market. Bring your little ones to the Kids Connection booth and help inspire a lifetime of healthy living!
