Vineyard crews are busy hedging this time of year, and it’s about much more than keeping rows looking tidy.

As shoots continue to grow, they can become excessively long and dense, creating too much shade around the fruit zone. Hedging helps:

🌿 Improve sunlight exposure for balanced fruit ripening
💨 Increase airflow through the canopy, reducing disease pressure
🍇 Direct the vine’s energy toward fruit development rather than excessive shoot growth
🚜 Maintain row accessibility for vineyard operations

Timing is everything. When done correctly, hedging helps create the ideal microclimate around grape clusters, supporting quality and consistency as the growing season progresses.

A small trim today can make a big difference at harvest.

Answer Reveal! 🍷✨

The answer to this week’s quiz is… Silvaner — the understated white grape that proves elegance and terroir expression don't have to be loud to be memorable.

What makes Silvaner so compelling is its ability to showcase freshness, minerality, and texture with remarkable clarity. Rather than relying on intense aromatics, it lets its vineyard, soil, and climate take center stage, creating wines that are both subtle and deeply rewarding.

Silvaner reminds us that great wine isn't always about power or intensity—sometimes it's about balance, precision, and letting the terroir speak for itself. 🍇💫🥂

This week’s white grape doesn’t rely on bold aromatics or flashy fruit to make an impression 🍷✨

Instead, it’s all about nuance, texture, and a remarkable ability to reflect where it’s grown. Often overlooked outside wine circles, it has earned a devoted following among sommeliers and terroir enthusiasts alike.

Balance matters in wine tasting — it’s what leads to harmony in a wine, and ultimately, that’s one of the greatest goals of winemaking. 🍷

When tasting, ask yourself:
Does anything stick out? Is the alcohol overpowering? Are the tannins too aggressive? Is the acidity out of place? Or does every component work together seamlessly?

A balanced wine doesn’t mean every element is equal — it means every element is in harmony. And that harmony is what makes a wine truly memorable.

The answer to this week’s quiz is… Andalusia — a region that proves some of the world’s most fascinating wines are born from tradition, patience, and a strong sense of place.

What makes Andalusia so compelling is its ability to produce wines unlike any other. From crisp, saline Finos to rich, complex Olorosos and luscious Pedro Ximénez wines, Andalusia showcases an incredible range of styles shaped by climate, terroir, and centuries-old winemaking practices.

Andalusia reminds us that great wine isn't just about the grapes—it's about history, craftsmanship, and the stories that develop over time. 🍇💫🍷
