Well, it's been a while since we posted anything, because unfortunately we don't have much to post. As dad has told me on repeat for years "one of these days your luck will run out" and boy did it ever. We bred 7 sows/gilts for 2024 and it almost felt like too much for Bob and I to handle, sort of took the enjoyment out of it, so we scaled back to 4 sows. 1 bred and didn't abort out of the 4. 🤢
That sow...the one I've bished about since we brought her home, crazy Bacon, was the only one who earned her keep. I can't tell you what happened. All caught. Protein was the same as usual. Vaccines were UTD but they aborted their litters. Soooo those 3 made a trip to Barnesville livestock sale. We have bought replacements and Im super hopeful for the 2026 farrow season. Dad also has rehomed a couple at my barn as well. I'm like a sow horrider now. 😏 Bob, of course, is super excited to have all these pigs back in our barn. 🤪
I don't intend on selling any of Emma's jackpot gilts as all but 1 will be old enough for breeding season next year. Making our farrow herd up to 8 well 10 but that's another story for another day. Yes 10 is too many but we will just have to suck it up. I'm planning for a huge contribution to the piglet sale next year with more purebreds, Lord willing.
Below are Emma's new girls we have one more to be delivered next month, a Yorkshire from Yorkie the york she showed later last jackpot/state fair season.
