The yellow powder hidden within the hop is called lupulin. Lupulin contains essential oils that impart flavor and aroma to beer. Interestingly, hops are also being used medicinally for a range of issues including anxiety, restlessness and insomnia and are being studied for hormone replacement therapy and relief from menstruation-related symptoms.
