Healthy food, working farms, caring for the land & getting people outside. We have a lot in common with our neighbors at Merck Forest & Farmland Center in Rupert, VT. That's why the Co-op is proud to sponsor their October 3 Hike-a-Thon! This event supports Merck's education programs, trail stewardship, and keeping their gorgeous 3,644 acres open to the public year-round, free of charge.

Interested in joining a Co-op hiking team? Register with Merck ($25): https://www.merckforest.org/hikeathon Then message us here and we'll get back to you with more details.

AND, there's more to this partnership coming soon! 🙊

Every time you buy flour, beans, dish soap, shampoo, cooking oil or detergents, you're paying for the single-use package, too. At the Co-op, you can skip that part. Find a container you really like and refill it from our bulk dispensers. Over time, your kitchen and bathroom fill up with pretty containers you've chosen instead of plastic you never wanted in the first place. It's a simple way to create less waste—and create cabinet shelves that make you feel good.

How did we get from an empty building to a Village anchor? People just like you hold meetings, push brooms, solve problems, and make sure there's plenty of healthy food on the shelves.

If you've ever wondered how a co-op grocery store works, or if you'd enjoy spending time with other people who like making good things happen, we hope you'll join us for one of our recruitment events. Discover the many ways—large and small—you can help shape the future of the Co-op.

Events held at the store, refreshments and conversation provided free:
September 10 • 4:00–5:30 PM
September 17 • 6:30–8:00 PM

Listening to this episode of NYT podcast "The Daily" (https://tinyurl.com/2p32cn6h) felt a little like walking through our own front door. The manager of the East End Food Co-op in Pittsburgh describes the smell of herbs, the rows of bulk bins, Dr. Bronner's in refillable pump bottles, giant drums of olive oil, and then answers a question we've all been asking: "Why has food gotten so expensive?" His perspective as a Co-op manager is refreshing. And it captures something we all love about food co-ops: because they're owned by the people who shop there, they're built on transparency and trust. If you've got a half hour, we think it's worth a listen.

We're so fortunate to have local food producers all around us, from bakers to brewers to farmers. Today, our pastry case is full of fresh treats from Hoosick Falls' Willhy Farms. Next week, we'll also welcome another delivery from Saratoga Gluten-Free Goods. Every day, all year round, you can discover what's being grown and crafted by local producers.

Most people have never tasted kombucha on tap. Today at the co-op you can pour yourself a lively, bright drink that was brewed less than an hour away by a worker-owned cooperative in Greenfield, Massachusetts. Their founder helped introduce kombucha to New England years ago, paving the way for brands now found in cans and bottles at the big grocery stores. This is the original, and we just got three flavors on tap at the Co-op!

The tents are packed away. The pie has all been eaten. The music has faded. But we've still got just a few precious picnic T-shirts left. If you'd like a little reminder of a wonderful day—and a community that came together to make it happen—they're waiting for you at the Co-op.

Behind every class, mixer, picnic, and new idea at the Co-op, there's a group of volunteers sitting around a table asking, "How can we make this even better?" Today this crew--the Co-Op's Membership & Outreach Committee--was talking about next year's picnic and planning this fall's classes and community activities. If that sounds like an enjoyable way to spend an hour once a month or so, we'd love another chair around the table!
