A place of Chaos, magic, delightful delicacies and dishes, and sniping directed at idiots. Welcome to Cast Iron Chaos, a personal exploration of the fringes of belief and order. This is my personal page, where I indulge in pasttimes that capture my fancy, and hopefully encourage others to open their eyes, take chances, and see the world from a somewhat different perspective. This site will NOT be

repeating the tired mantra, "Open your eyes, wake up sheeple, you are being lied to." Those words are bleated again and again by idiot conspiracy theorists. What's more, you see this nonsense in every forum in existence, regardless of what your interests are. How can there be conspiracy theorists in a hobby that should be as innocent and fun as cooking? That's easy, as there are closed-minded fools around you regardless what subject you are researching. I subscribe to the school of anti-censorship, of which the argument is follows: Expose it and laugh at it. By doing so, you demonstrate you are a better person than they are.

I still can't belive I forgot the okra with last night's gumbo! In my defense (however pathetic), I've looked online and I saw a number of other recipes for gumbo that also didn't include okra; they mentioned it, but didn't include it in the ingredients.. However, I've updated my own recipe to include okra, so I'll never forget it again when making gumbo.

A Louisiana cajun classic.

This guy has built his channel to almost 300,000 subscribers by doing honest (allegedly) reviews of all kinds of products. That must be how he was able to afford to buy and review 11 modern day cast iron skillets...and one Griswold #10. He paid $300 for the Griswold on eBay, and it was slightly warped when he received it. Well, his review isn't about bargain shopping for cast iron, so we'll leave it at that. After testing these pans using various methods, his first choices for quality and performance are Lodge and Victoria, while he ranks Smithey and Made-in as his two favorite higher-end (or higher cost) skillets. His tests look fair and unbiased, though he was able to seriously warp a Field skillet during his initial testing. All of these pans were tested on an induction stovetop.

And the Griswold? This guy says it should only be a collector's item. Well, that's his conclusion.

A well-known and much beloved member of our cast iron community, Cynthia Wesley, passed away unexpectedly this week. She was a regular member of several cast iron YouTube channels, including the Mudbrooker, Honeybadger, Luis J., and especially our YouTube channel, Cast Iron Chaos. I inquired with Mr. and Mrs. Pawpaw Dan as to what her favorite dish wasm and I was told she was especially a fan of cajun cooking. That made it easy to determine what to cook on YouTube Live tonight.

Tonight on YouTube Live, we'll be remebering Cynthia and cooking one of her favorite cast iron dishes...namely, gumbo. We'll be remembering her not with sadness but with love and respect, and as a bonus you'll get to see a Yankee attempt to cook gumbo in a big cast iron pot! Most of all, we're here on this channel to have fun, and so we'll be enjoying ourselves in our live chat room tonight as we remember our friend Cynthia...winner of many cast iron giveaways, and collectopr of many cast iron pans, including a sizable number of BS&R pieces. This live video is officially scheduled to begin at 8:00 PM tonight, but we'll probably start earlier than 8 because I want to ensure the preparations are ready by 8...especially cooking sausage.
