(1863)

Nationally acclaimed and locally cherished, the Cambridge Brewing Company has been at the forefront of the Craft Brewery movement since our inception in 1989. Our focus on high quality craft beers has led to numerous accolades and a devoted clientele. Our team of brewers crafts a wide array of traditional, new American and experimental beers styles. We were the first commercial brewery in America

to produce a Belgian beer. Our barrel cellar was one of the first of its kind, creating wood aged beers and utilizing micro flora to enhance flavors. Our passion for experimentation combined with our respect for classic world styles translates into an ever changing wide array of beers offered on any given day here at the restaurant. All of this is created and produced in ways that are as earth friendly and sustainable as possible. We strive for zero waste so we recycle and compost everything possible. Our spent grain from the brewing process is used as animal feed by local farmers. All of our lighting is LED, our cleaning supplies are non-toxic, and we conserve and re-use water from the brewing process. CBC got its start in a refurbished mill building, featuring high ceilings, exposed brick, skylights and a fantastic patio in the warmer months. Although the pub has since closed, the CBC brand lives on, and you can find us on tap at your favorite local pub or restaurant. What began in 1989 as a desire to offer a respite from our hectic lifestyles endures today, more driven than ever!

šŸŽ‰ Well folks, today is a special day for us. We’re thrilled to announce that the iconic Cambridge Brewing Company (CBC) brand has officially been acquired by Castle Island Brewing Company(CIBC). šŸ»
For 35 years, CBC has been a cornerstone of the Boston beer scene and a massively impactful member of the American craft beer community. We began partnering with CIBC earlier this year to help meet draft demand for our legendary Amber Ale and Flower Child IPA, and when CBC founder Phil Bannatyne decided to retire, we received an overwhelming response from the public asking us to continue making our beers somehow. Phil reached out to CIBC with the hope that CBC’s legacy could live on, as both Phil and Brewmaster Will have a lot of respect for CIBC and feel the values and visions of our two companies align well.
ā€œOur mission is to preserve everything fans love about CBC while slowly growing its reachā€ says Adam Romanow, founder and CEO of Castle Island. You’ll still be able to find CBC beers on tap at area bars and restaurants, plus at CIBC taprooms in Norwood and South Boston. Eventually, the hope is to get cans back on shelves throughout Greater Boston.
While our beloved Kendall Square brewpub is closing this week, there is reason to celebrate the future of CBC beer. We are thrilled the folks at CIBC have agreed to carry the torch and keep the spirit of CBC alive and thriving!

Presenting Blunderbuss Grand Orange, a very special release to celebrate our 35-year run
of excellence and innovation.
Inspired by the great cognac-based orange liquors of the world, we aged our Blunderbuss
Barleywine in American oak bourbon barrels for over five years. Over time the angel’s share
concentrated the beer’s flavor and viscosity as well as alcohol. We then sliced and
dehydrated several cases of fresh blood oranges and rested our beer atop these oranges for
an additional full year.
Our patience has paid off handsomely with one single, small keg of barleywine-based
blood orange liquor. Served still in sherry glasses only.
