❓Did you know potatoes at the grocery store have been sprayed with an herbicide generically called "sprout nip" which prevents the tubers from growing? Preventing the natural cycle of plants in the name of making real food look artificially perfect.
---
A couple weeks ago I took out our remaining potatoes from last year's harvest (they last all winter long, in case you were on the fence about growing some). And was washing them up for dinner when I thought "Eh, what if I set some aside to grow plants instead?" So I stuck them in a drawer and two weeks later, these buggers are ready for planting. #WhyIsThisSoEasy?

While you can grow them from actual seed, potatoes are most commonly grown via "vegetative propagation" i.e. Every potato you've eaten has been grown from another potato which was grown from another potato and so on.
These are called seed potatoes, which grow stems from the little eyes we all used to pick off as a kid. The seed potato is packed with the nutrients the plant needs to get started. By the end of the season, the seed potato is all used up, disintegrating into dirt (photo #6) and 3-6 new potatoes are ready for harvest!
