When a tick bite turns into a massive infection on his tail head and spreading to his underbelly it's time for a trip to the vet. Unfortunately, the vets around here are not open on the weekend. After an antibiotic, some spray for his belly, bloodwork, and an ugly cone he is getting to recoup in the house to keep the area clean. He has rarely gotten a tick on him, but if he did it was always on his head. I guess this tick took advantage of him being wet after a swim in the creek, and it got under his thick coat. I guess we will have to be more diligent and search their coats after a run in the woods. When I was a kid, we had lots of ticks, but they were basically just a nuisance that required sitting down and picking them off the dogs. NOW THEY ARE DANGEROUS!
