Row by row shutoffs on planters aren’t new, but still one of the coolest tech adds for a planter. Tremendous savings in seed and honestly a yield bump from lack of over-planting and “point rows”.

On top of all of that, it’s just an incredibly satisfying look it provides after crops emerge.

We’ve been spotting in some corn the past week. “Varmits”, as Frank Shanks would call them have been horrible this year. Ground hogs, ground squirrels and in this case Turkeys!

In this particular field they wiped 2 to 3 acres pretty easily clean and continue to cause some damage. Turkeys seem to be becoming a problem the last couple of years.

4 days after wheat fungicide, wheat was fully headed out and looking good. Will need a couple more rains but we are getting really fortunate on temps for grainfill!

Exactly 7 days later - sure appears to be a big year for in-furrow. Difference looks even more drastic this week in person. We will continue to follow!

Got our wheat sprayed last Thursday. Fungicide, insecticide, and some foliar N. Got a nice rain on it Friday and hopefully will have a good weather for grain fill!

Looking like another strong response year for starter fertilizer. Specifically In-furrow in this case. This wasn’t done on purpose but always nice to have a reminder why you run it! We will follow up later with more pics.

Wrapped up yesterday for the first time. April 9th to May 14th with a 15 day break between planting. Had everything in but 180 acres of corn by April 27th (fastest pace ever for us).

We say the first time because it’s been an eventful spring! 2 rounds of frost that had us concerned for some soybeans and still keeping an eye on them. The rain that came April 27th had crops planted the 25th through the 27th facing some emergence issues.

Between rotary hoeing about 100 acres of corn and a couple timely rains we may get lucky and avoid some issues but still too early to say!

Wrapped up planting our 2026 soybean crop today!

At least for the first time. A lot on beans in the ground with a rainy and cool forecast ahead. We started planting beans April 9th, the earliest ever for us. By April 14th we were half planted on beans & stopped between the forecast and needing to spray.

We had beans get some frost damage from the frost event on April 19th (temps down to 29/30). They may need thickened. Still waiting to see what the ultimate outcome was. With at least one more frost risk and the 10/14 day outlook we may not be done planting!

Last year was the first time we planted all our beans in April and this year would make it the second time.

We’ve been busy the last week and a half! Got some corn planted Monday, April 13th. Checking this morning it is getting very close to spiking through already.

The weather and forecasts associated with it have been testing for everyone. Finally got one rain to materialize last night. Seems like a pretty widespread .7” to over an inch. Thankful for it and a break to reset.

Feel fortunate for all the rain we have been receiving and even better we were able to wrap up spring manure and anhydrous last week!

Before we put on manure, we had to replace the orbital motor that runs the chopper knives in the distributor. Last year it said ✌🏻 after 13 years and developed quite the crack as seen in the picture.

You can run without it, but are at risk of plugging a hose and resulting in uneven “distribution” or rate to one of the knives.
