If you’re looking for something to give you the best looking lawn on the block, Helena’s 20-4-8 is just the ticket. It contains a 4-1-2 ratio of N-P-K which is ideal for turf grasses on most soil types! The 20% N is not only Urea, but also slow release polymer sulfur coated urea! This gives you a fast green up along with the slow release N to keep it green! This product also contains Sulfur, Iron and zinc which are all important for chlorophyll! Humic acid is also added to this product for several reasons! One, it frees up nutrients that are bound to soil particles making them available to plants! Secondly, it reduces soil compaction and three it increases water and air infiltration into soil profiles! This is a great lawn product and one bag covers 8000 sqft!

U.S. CATTLE REPORT 🚨 USDA Confirms First New World Screwworm Case in the United States 🚨

USDA's Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) confirmed the detection of New World screwworm (NWS) in a 3-week-old calf in Zavala County, Texas, marking the first confirmed U.S. case. The larvae were found in the calf's umbilical area, and no additional cases have been detected to date. New World screwworm is a serious pest whose larvae feed on the living tissue of warm-blooded animals, posing risks to livestock, pets, wildlife, and, in rare cases, humans.

In response, USDA and Texas animal health officials have activated their NWS Response Playbook and are taking immediate action to contain and eradicate the pest. Measures include establishing a 20-kilometer quarantine zone around the detection site, increasing surveillance and trapping efforts, deploying additional sterile screwworm flies, implementing wildlife monitoring programs, and forming a unified incident command team. USDA emphasized that the U.S. food supply remains safe, as screwworm does not infest meat products and any affected animals would be identified during federal meat inspection. Officials also urged livestock producers and pet owners in the region to monitor animals closely for signs of infestation and report any suspected cases immediately.

I had a few people call yesterday asking about these little bugs. This is in an old world bluestem I’ve been babying in my back yard for years because it’s a fantastic grass with deep roots that allow water to percolate deep into the soil, great for capturing carbon, great for hay and have a large seed that’s great for birds. You probably won’t believe me but about two weeks ago I saw the first covey of quail that I have seen in our area in 46 years. These little bugs smoked approximately 50 acres of it around my house within two months. Symptoms include yellow then purple leaves that rapidly turn into a dead plant. Hopefully nature balances itself out as it did with the corn leaf aphids. Ladybugs rapidly took out the aphids. Hopefully nature has a counterpunch for mealybugs. They are introduced from Australia so I’m assuming this is the insect world equivalent of native Americans seeing the first of the wild horses introduced to the Americas by Christopher Columbus! Off label insecticides take out the good guys too. It’s advised to not use in most literature I read.

G90 sweet corn is looking good this year! We’ll be eating good in a couple weeks! Stay tuned because if I can get my three row corn puller (my kids) up and running we’ll have some available at the store!
