Sometimes beekeeping is hard in ways you don’t expect. Strong queens with good genetics are precious. This is our green queen we have had for 2 fantastic years. She was the best queen we have ever had!
We thought she had been superseded but new queen didn’t take. We ordered a new queen and low and behold green queen shows up. She’s not laying eggs so her time is done. We have to capture and euthanize her. If we don’t we risk the hive swarming or collapsing.
We preserved her and will enclose her in resin to use for educational purposes. She will continue to contribute to save the bees!

We had the best day sharing bees and beekeeping with the Milam County 4th graders! A big thank you to the Milam County Farm Bureau for inviting us again this year. It is definitely a highlight of our year.
