Northstar Bison is a family owned and operated, vertically integrated enterprise, that was birthed in September 1994 with the purchase of 2 young bison from Bluemound State Park in Luverne, Minnesota, to fulfill a life-long dream. During that time, the decision to market the meat directly was made and formed the distribution division. In pursuit of learning how to raise and produce the highest qua

lity of meat, we realized that 100% grassfed bison was the best all around; good for land, good for the animals and good for people. This became our motto. We determined to make quality product and excellent customer service our primary commitment to our customers. Today, the ranch consists of 1200 acres of owned and rented grasslands in Northwest Wisconsin and East Central Minnesota, where approximately 600 bison are grazed under Holistic Resource Management principles. In addition, we have developed very close working relationships with the ranchers in the upper Midwest who believe in the grass-fed production model and meet our criteria for raising this wonderful icon of the prairie.

This weekend we’ll release a herd of our bison onto the Prairie at Belwin Conservancy for the summer season.

The partnership between Northstar and Belwin started in 2008 as part of Belwin’s restoration work, and it’s quickly become our most anticipated day of the year!

The land has truly begun to thrive since reintroducing the herd to the prairie. There’s nothing quite like watching them dash into the grasslands.

If you’re near Afton Minnesota, we hope to see you there!

Did you know Alfredo is quite simple to make from scratch? We took our grass fed bison steak bites and pasture raised chicken fajita strips to whip up our obsession this week.

Our social media girl tried her hand at cooking one of our lamb roasts for the first time… and if she can do it, you can too.

She kept it simple with melted tallow, salt pepper, garlic, lemon juice, rosemary and thyme. This allowed the natural flavor of the roast to shine!

You can shop our lamb roasts and recipes through the link in our bio!

If you’re looking for a little variety this Easter, this is a dish that feels special (but super simple)

We took one of our whole rabbits and simmered it low and slow, to make this amazing, and comforting, meal! It’s perfect for an Easter meal surrounded by your loved ones.

Check the link in our bio to see what cuts of rabbit we offer!

Okay maybe not the only way, but it is our teams’s current hyper fixation. It took us maybe 10 minutes to whip up.

This lox spread (made from wild caught salmon) is a deliciously bright way to bring in the Spring season. You can use more cream cheese or lemon juice to make it easier to spread or dip!

As stewards, ranchers, it’s our responsibility to care for these animals throughout their entire lives…including the final moment.

That’s why our ability to field harvest our herd is so important to us.

By being able to remain in pasture, the team is safe, and the animals don’t have spikes of adrenaline from being transported into a facility.

Their lives sustain ours, and we believe they deserve that respect.
