Holly Beach sits on the Gulf coast of Cameron Parish, nicknamed the "Cajun Riviera" for its rare stretch of sandy shoreline in a state known for marsh.
For generations, families from Louisiana and east Texas have made the trip to its beach camps, many built on stilts to survive storm surge. Few places in the state offer a true Gulf beach experience.
The community has been rebuilt repeatedly after devastating hurricanes, including Rita in 2005 and Laura in 2020, a testament to how deeply people here are tied to this stretch of coast.
