Fortunately, the bees have been healthy for the most part and varroa mite counts have been relatively low. But the earlier dry weather has caused lower than normal honey harvests. August was busy as we tracked mite counts closely. We want these bees to live through winter! There is one more harvest in September! Hopefully our late summer plants have had enough rain!

Knotweed everywhere is blooming which is great news if you're a honeybee! Most people who know this plant don't like it because of its incredibly invasive nature. But it provides the nectar that gets turned into a delightfully dark honey loaded with antioxidants and a unique caramel-ly flavor! See if you can spot this plant along the highways in your travels and the swing by the Painted Post Farmers' Market for a look at the honey. And catch the buzzz!
