EVery year goldenrod gets a bum rap for causing allergy symptoms. It's pollen is too heavy to be spread from plant to plant by the wind and thus requires a pollinator! Honeybees love goldenrod and use it to make a delicious honey in the fall. Join the fun and try some fall honey!

Lots of people drive by the honey house and want to know what this is in the side yard! Its our solar beeswax melter that uses heat from the sun to melt the raw beeswax and separate out the large impurities. The resulting blocks are melted and strained again before being made into the candles, soaps and blocks that you see on the market table!

Bee bread is pollen mixed with a small amount of honey. Worker bees store this bee protein near where they are raising baby or larval bees. Nurse bees use pollen and honey to make royal jelly that is fed to the larva to make them grow!

Greetings all! It feels like it is taking forever to warm up! Here are a couple of pics of the prespring bee yard and a feeder that is used to supplement the hives this time of year before much of anything is blooming. A sugery syrup is used by the bees for energy to warm the hive and provide food for nurse bees and new larval baby bees!

The wild swings of temperature in this crazy winter have people asking 'are the bees confused?'. Well no but stressed for sure. Its just too quick of a change. Imagine if when you got off the plane if the Caribbean and you couldn't take off your winter coat, hat and mittens! Ugh! At least the bees can take a break, fly and shift to a new patch of honey in the hives!
