Time sure flies and so have the honeybees! We have a fresh supply of knotweed honey to prove it! We have already had several requests for some of this year's crop! We are currently tucking the bees in for winter but you can still find us at the Corning Farmers Market on Thursday and Painted Post Farmers' Market on Saturday! See you there!
Fortunately, the bees have been healthy for the most part and varroa mite counts have been relatively low. But the earlier dry weather has caused lower than normal honey harvests. August was busy as we tracked mite counts closely. We want these bees to live through winter! There is one more harvest in September! Hopefully our late summer plants have had enough rain!
Knotweed everywhere is blooming which is great news if you're a honeybee! Most people who know this plant don't like it because of its incredibly invasive nature. But it provides the nectar that gets turned into a delightfully dark honey loaded with antioxidants and a unique caramel-ly flavor! EVery year goldenrod gets a bum rap for causing allergy symptoms. It's pollen is too heavy to be spread from plant to plant by the wind and thus requires a pollinator! Honeybees love goldenrod and use it to make a delicious honey in the fall. Join the fun and try some fall honey!

Our varroa mite counts have been remarkably low this year which is great news for the long term health of our bee yard. Bit we will keep testing and monitoring for this on-going pest and virus vector to keep honey production and pollination service strong! Thank you honey bees!

We're glad that it has finally warmed up! We thought we might have to do varroa mite checks with our winter coats on! So far checks have been good and the bees are busy! They've been flying on the Russian olive blooms which are a big part of the spring wildflower honey crop!
Lots of customers have been asking about locust honey! I am out of last year's supply. Hopefully the bees will make more as soon as the trees have blossomed, keep as eye out they should bloom soon!
