The boys are still pushing antler. Will have to do their glamor shots soon for the auction catalog. Fawns are big and healthy and will be weaning soon, a couple are losing their spots already.

First antler repairs of the year. I like to see some extra points on their racks, but the more extras you have the greater the chance of breaking one in velvet. When you farm deer, you learn antler repair pretty quick. Luckily I had helpers.

It looks bad, but both these bucks just had a tine broken off. We were able to trip away loose velvet, stop the bleeding, and apply silver spray to keep the flies off.

It’s a peaceful pasture in July, but when that velvet comes off, their antlers become formidable weapons of war. Best buddies become competition for does and battles will be had. But until then, it’s all good.

Fawn Watch 2026 will be wrapping up soon, we have a couple does holding out. Fawns are piling up, we are up to 66 so far.

Fawn Watch 2026 continues, we are up to 28 fawns so far. 14 bucks and 14 does. Normally I’d want more bucks, but I will take these AI does all day. We have three on the bottle, hopefully we don’t get too many more. They do better on momma, but there are a few every year that need extra care. Lots of big bellies out there in the pens, more to come!

The 2026 Fawning Season has begun with a bang at Finley Ridge Whitetails with quintuplets! Three bucks and two does. The littlest doe didn’t make it and we will bottle feed the other doe to ease the burden on momma. These are artificial insemination babies which increases the chance of multiple fawns vice the normal two babies. The sire is an impressive SS markered buck with a GEBV of -0.1533. We are aggressively improving the genetics of our herd to provide CWD resistance while maintaining the antler characteristics we like.
