I had a doeling born with an extra teat this year. First time this has ever happened in my herd. So I posted to the ADGA Breeders Hangout looking for more information about the situation. This is the link to that post if anyone is interested. I haven’t decided what her fate is yet.

The consensus is that’s it’s polygenic (so anywhere from 10 to 100’s of genetic markers) can be responsible and it has to be from both parents. So it’s one of those things that happens in lots of herds randomly if you have a lot of goats or breed long enough. Someone even said she bred her goat with double teats and she never produced a kid with them. The genes have to line up on both sides.
